For Sale at Auction: 1939 Buick Special in sandy, Utah

Vehicle Description

1939 Buick Special Sport Coupe

VIN:  43660257

Owner History:

Karen Webb Garrett & Pat Garrett were long time residents of Midvale, Utah. Karen was a teacher & taught for the DOD then for Jordan School District, & Pat was a member of the US Airforce. They met on the US airbase in Tripoli, Libya. When they finished living & working abroad, they returned to Karen’s hometown of Midvale to set up home. They were avid collectors & part of that was a love of classic cars. They did not have a particular car or make that they collected, although Karen was partial to VWs. They just loved what they loved. They loved showing their cars at various car shows, driving them to & from work & driving them in local & regional Utah parades. This Buick, along with three other classic cars being offered at auction are part of their estate. Unless things were written down, much of what is known about the cars’ histories is either from hearsay, mechanics or is otherwise unknown.

1939 Buick History & Condition:

This car was bought new in California and was given by the original owner to his grandson to attend BYU in Provo, UT.  The present owner is the 4th owner, and the car has been well cared for.  The 3rd owner purchased the car in 1975 just following some motor and mechanical work.  The car features the original Straight 8 engine.

At some point in its history the car was subjected to restoration with all the work completed by professional shops.  All chrome and fenders were removed as was the original paint.  N.O.S. parts including wiring and rubber seals were installed where needed.  All chrome was triple plated and the nickel stainless was polished.

Special Features:

  • Radio
  • Heater
  • Maroon velveteen interior done in “Century Buick” style with Century handles
  • 1939 Century 15" wheels
  • Fender lights were changed to turn lights,
  • Tubeless wide white wall tires and the spare has never been on the ground
  • A quadraphonic 8 track plug in unit was added with Jensen speakers hidden under the dash and behind the opera seats

  • The radio was overhauled by Dan Packard in Marblehead, Massachusets
  • Sealed Beam Headlight Conversion.
  • Approximately 1300 miles since the restoration
