For Sale at Auction: 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza in sandy, Utah

Vehicle Description

1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Convertible

VIN:  40967W272387

Owner History:

Karen Webb Garrett & Pat Garrett were long time residents of Midvale, Utah. Karen was a teacher & taught for the DOD then for Jordan School District, & Pat was a member of the US Airforce. They met on the US airbase in Tripoli, Libya. When they finished living & working abroad, they returned to Karen’s hometown of Midvale to set up home. They were avid collectors & part of that was a love of classic cars. They did not have a particular car or make that they collected, although Karen was partial to VWs. They just loved what they loved. They loved showing their cars at various car shows, driving them to & from work & driving them in local & regional Utah parades. This Corvair along with three other classic cars being offered at auction are part of their estate. Unless things were written down, much of what is known about the cars’ histories is either from hearsay, mechanics or is otherwise unknown.

1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Convertible History & Condition

The only history comes from the neighbor. When the Garretts brought the Corvair home, they took it to a Corvair specialist mechanic in the Salt Lake valley. He related that it purred, “Corvairs never purr”! It may have been at that time that the interior was redone. However, there are no records of that work. It did sit for an unknown amount of time. Then in 2021 the fuel pump was replaced as was the generator, & the carburetors were rebuilt to get it running well.  While the title says this is a Corvair Monza 500, the VIN shows it to be a 900 series. The original owner’s guide & radio brochure are included.

Condition:

The Engine, Transmission, Chassis, Suspension, & Brakes are all in good condition. Bodywork is excellent. The body is straight. The Paintwork is good, but dull. The Brightwork is in good condition. It has all 4 original hubcaps. With the Electrical System, the back & brake lights do not consistently work, however interior lights, headlights & radio all work. The Convertible top needs replacement.
