Vehicle Description
1964 Corvette convertible, 327ci / 4-speed transmission, knock-off
wheels, A/C, runs and drives excellent, many upgrades.
The design team at Chevrolet used the '64 model year as a year of
Corvette firsts, offering multiple performance advancements in both
suspension, as well as the engine department.
This is the first year the Corvette was offered with 4-wheel
independent suspension, forever improving the car's handling and
sporty feel. The engine lineup now offered 365hp and 375hp options,
power numbers that wouldn't be surpassed until 2001!
This 1964 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is equipped with that
newly designed independent suspension, with power coming from a
potent 365hp spec'd 327ci small block. This combination results in
an incredible driving experience, sure to put a smile on anyone's
face!
Not only is this '64 an excellent performer, its style and
appearance are iconic Corvette, bright red with white convertible
top. This combination is what many people picture in their mind
when you talk about early Corvettes, and rightly so. This might be
the most popular color combination ever, popping up in songs,
movies, and books for almost 60 years.
The paint on this C2 was done as part of the restoration performed
during prior ownership and has held up well over the years with
only minor imperfections visible up close. Overall, the red hue
looks great on the smooth body panels as it shines with a glossy,
mirror like finish. The chrome accessories look good from front to
back, along with the stainless window trim and rocker moldings -
the emblems and badges also look great and are all correct for the
'64 model year.
Looking inside reveals the matching bright red interior still in
excellent condition since the restoration with red vinyl bucket
seats, door panels, carpet, and dash. The red center console looks
great with chrome trim and factory 4-speed shifter with matching
shifter ball. The wood grain steering wheel is in good shape as it
frames the gauge cluster with the factory speedometer and
tachometer mounted front and center. The center portion of the dash
houses the functional stock clock, air and heat controls, along
with the factory appearing AM/FM radio with power antenna, also
functioning as it should. For those hot and humid days, this
Corvette is equipped with Air Conditioning that blows cold thanks
to a stock GM Frigidaire compressor with the factory controls. With
all of those creature comforts, it is safe to say this Corvette is
very comfortable to drive.
Under the hood, sits the potent 327 cubic inch small block
producing a factory rated 365hp with 350-foot pounds of torque -
the highest horsepower offered in '64 with the exception of the
327ci ""fuelie"" option producing 375hp. This high-winding
powerplant was built using a 1968 327 engine block fitted with 1964
suffix code ""RE"" (365hp) engine components, topped off by an
aluminum intake manifold and 600cfm carburetor. Cooling this
high-revving small block is an aluminum radiator with a single
electric fan. Behind the 327 is a Muncie 4-speed transmission
providing smooth, easy shifts thanks to the factory chrome shifter
inside, along with a diaphragm style clutch set-up with a fairly
light clutch pedal feel. The power is sent rearward to the factory
rear axle assembly stamped ""CD 2 28 64"", decoded to 3.70 gears
with posi-traction and a date code of February 28, 1964.
Looking underneath, the frame is in great condition, with no signs
of rust or cracks including the typical problem areas. Floor boards
are clean with no cracks or holes, suspension components are in
good condition, with new power steering control valve assembly.
Rolling stock consists of 15"" aluminum Turbine style, knock-off
wheels (including lead mallet), wrapped with 205/70/15 Firestone
White line radial tires, delivering a smooth ride with predictable
handling.
