Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova
The 1960's Chevy II/Nova was one of Chevrolet's best-selling models
and was sold as a compact car. It didn't take General Motors long
to realize they could put some of their bigger engines in these
cars and people would buy them for performance as well. Hence a
Nova ad that states, "The Sleeper Awakes."
Dignifying our showroom space here at Classic Auto Mall is this
Nova stunner. I say this because one look at the fit, finish, and
paint on this car and you will not be able to restrain yourself
from being impressed. The result of a 3 year long build with all
handcrafted metalwork the car was restored to appear factory
correct but with an old school hotrod look. A monster supercharged
big block V8, state of the art electronics, custom exhaust, factory
"SS" style interior, and more custom fabrication work than you can
soak in with your eyes all work together to bring you this upcoming
magazine feature and multiple show winner. A certainly assured job
well done, definitely a show car, however you do not need to be
afraid of taking it out on the weekends and blow out of some the
carbon buildup as dad used to say!
Exterior
Gosh where do I start...I could just say it's all great, and be
scary as to my accuracy, but I digress...a shiny chrome egg crate
grille with single headlights flanking either side, all surrounded
by beautiful trim work, and held up by an original re-plated bumper
with no faults in the chrome. A hoodless front end giving the whole
world a view of what you're packing makes its way back to near
flawless glass surrounded by re-plated and polished trim. Some new
handcrafted panels make up the slabbed sides, but they align just
perfectly, and are spattered with newly plated polished handles,
mirrors, but to give a more sleek look all badging has been
removed. Bringing up the rear is a straight as an arrow trunk lid,
and rear chrome trimmed taillights, with a bumper below, all
re-plated and polished to factory looks. Paint is stunning on this
car and is the deep end of the pool Silver and has been applied,
buffed and waxed to perfection. RC Comp Exile wheels are on in 17"
and 15" format and are shod in 26x6.00R17 and 275/60R15 Mickey
Thompson rubber front and rear. Just flawless!
Interior
All newly upholstered seats, new carpet, rebuilt instruments, and a
new steering wheel all dressed in black vinyl, and a white stripe
added to each seat running right up the middle...oh and add a
vertical stripe on the doors to be even more matchey and cool!
Between the stylish buckets is a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter
mounted atop a black pedestal and well within the driver's reach.
The factory gauges are fronted by a column mounted tachometer and
the correct black plastic 3 spoke steering wheel with a mixture of
brushed aluminum and chrome in the spokes. A carbon fiber switch
panel is mounted nicely in the center of the dash while just below
are the heater controls. No Pro-Street here, the factory back seat
has been retained although it requires vigorous yoga lessons to
navigate your way in and out. As mentioned, new black carpeting
floods the floors and a black vinyl headliner hangs above with just
nary a touch of wrinkling. A silver painted roll cage provides
protection for the passengers in case things should go awry, this
cage includes a main hoop, front, side and door down bars, a dash
bar and added roof cross bracing...all first class....
Drivetrain
496 cubes in the form of a tire shredding V8 are happily mounted in
a pristine engine compartment home. This mill has been built to the
hilt by Lorenzo's Fast Flow Cylinder Heads Inc and thanks in part
to the Mahle race pistons, H-beam rods. Comp solid roller camshaft
(.758 lift, 260i/266e duration), Liberty 320cc aluminum cylinder
heads that have been bowl blended, a monsterous supercharger, and
bullet 9 way timing set makes a near unheard of 950hp. To help make
those numbers, dual Holley 4bbl carburetors are on to feed copious
amounts of air and fuel to the mill. A TH400 3-speed automatic
transmission is bolted to the back and power flows back to a Ford
9" axle weighing in with a 4.11 ratio. Total visual eye candy under
the hood, even down to the chrome plated motor plate and the added
structural front support bars.
Undercarriage
When one states every nut and bolt was taken off this car for the
restification, you would expect to see what is under this
car...nothing but clean, mechanically perfect, straight, shiny
compilation of parts working together as they should. Starting at
the rear we see a custom modified factory fuel tank and just ahead
is the ladder bar rear suspension with adjustable coil overs and
Wilwood rear disc brakes. Moving forward we see welded in subframe
connectors, stainless steel brake lines and braided lines for the
fuel. Up front is a Heidts Mustang II style front suspension with
more Wilwood disc brakes. Custom built headers snake down from the
engine and a dual Flowmaster exhaust system with upstream TotalFlow
race bullet mufflers help to quiet the roar of the mighty big block
before ending in turn down tips just in front of the rear axle.
Amen!
Drive-Ability
Following the wishes of our consignor we didn't start or drive the
car. However, he was kind enough to come in and give us a quick
thrill ride. From the passenger's seat we experienced blazingly
fast acceleration, wonderful bias free braking and unexpectedly
good handling. All functions were working during our drive and upon
arrival back to our Hallowed Halls I had to send my partner in
crime to the local Walmart to grab me a fresh pair of tighty
whities as mine had taken on a brown hue.
This car is a real highlighter here, and rightfully so. All the
attention to detail, restified and retaining the factory lines
while holding within a gaggle of custom upgrades and all the while
running like a clock. This will be the toughest Bowtie on your
block. Deport your import and snap this one up, it won't be here
long.
