Vehicle Description
1996 Ford F-150 Pickup
The great-great-grandfather to the F-150 was the Ford F-1 which
debuted for 1948. It quickly became a favorite of farmers and small
business owners. Despite its name, it never participated in a
Formula 1 race. The F-150 moniker itself debuted for the 1975 model
year, as the name for Ford's half-ton pickup which slotted between
the lighter-duty F-100 and the heavier-duty F-250. Massive
popularity soon ensued. How massive? So much so that the Ford
F-Series has been not only the best-selling pickup for over 40
years running, but the best-selling vehicle for the last 35 years.
It has consistently outsold such hugely popular rides as the Honda
Accord and Toyota Camry. The F-Series trucks are so popular that
their total production comes in at a whopping 32 million trucks. In
2018 Ford sold over 1.075 million F-Series trucks, averaging a sale
every 29.3 seconds.
For consignment, with its sleek looks, strong drivetrain choice,
and sheer ubiquity, it's easy to understand why this
ninth-generation Ford F-150 is well on its way to becoming a modern
classic. Increasingly, collectors are looking for old school trucks
they can actually enjoy from behind the wheel, and perhaps even
pitch in from time to time with hauling or towing duties. This is
the last generation to show up before the Big Rig era of uber large
pickup trucks and our example for consignment is from the 1996
model year, dipped in bright red and sports an ultra low 66,550
title documented miles, the 1996 F-150 never looked so classic and
good.
Please Note: during our review of this truck we note a total loss
on the Carfax report, however this loss does not show up as a
reconstructed/rebuilt branding on the title. This loss also does
not show up on the NVMTIS vehicle history report.
Exterior
Vermillion Red bathes the straight steel of this pickup that shows
with no rust however signs of body work do appear on the
passenger's side and match up with the Carfax report of damage. The
entire body appears to have been dipped in Vermillion and retains a
wonderful shine. The grille and front and rear bumpers are looking
good as are the aerodynamic headlights. Trimmings encircle the
wheel wells and between these trimmings and midway up the body
chrome spear which doubles as a protective rub strip. Down low are
a short pair of diamond plate running/step boards to help with
entrance and egress. The mirrors are black plastic and chromed, and
on the back the tailgate has an aluminum panel with a black stripe
running through it and a FORD badge at the passenger's edge.
Topping off the bed is a Vermillion Red matching bed topper that
offers protection for your cargo. Flipping up the topper rear
window and opening the tailgate we are met with a bed which is
lined with black plastic on the sides and bedfloor. 15-inch
polished aluminum wheels are wrapped by 265/75R15 Firestone rubber
on all 4 corners.
Interior
For the interior a gray broadcloth bench stretches from door to
door and has a fold down armrest in the center. This seat presents
as almost new with no tearing and only minor wrinkling. Gray
plastic moldings abound on the doors and create the various panels
for the armrest, storage bin upper and lower and the black plastic
surround for the power window and lock toggles. A small area of the
gray vinyl is also seen on the doors. A deep gray and black dash,
original to the truck, is on and looking good. Black panels house
the instruments, knobs and turns and the factory AM/FM/Cassette
player along with the heater and A/C controls are in the center. A
factory black leather wrapped steering wheel is fronting the dash
and is complete with cruise control buttons. Some wear off of the
leather is noted at the top of the wheel. A gray headliner is
above, and clean gray carpeting is below being protected by gray
rubber mats.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 5.8 liter V8 which is the engine the factory
put in. It has EFI and a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission on
the back with 3.55 TracLoc axles. All looking very good, nearly
showroom fresh.
Undercarriage
Just patina, some surface rust, and road dirt underneath and no
invasive rust noted. Power disc brakes on front and power drums on
back. To provide the ride we have an independent front suspension
with radius arms and coil springs and on the rear are traditional
leaf springs. A stock style single exhaust is on and all is looking
good.
Drive-Ability
A nice used truck in good shape right out of 1996 and looking the
part in its 4x4 height. It started easily and ran like a champ on
the test track with no issues coming up during the drive.
Somewhat low original miles (66,550), and looking good and ready to
go to work, which is more than I can say about most people these
days!
