For Sale: 1987 Morgan Plus 8 in Asheville, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Original, non propane, LHD full aluminum-bodied Plus 8 (aluminum block 215 cubic inch V8). The experience of driving a +8 Morgan on a country road is like no other car in the world. Incredible fun. Completely hand-crafted. Almost all +8's imported to the US from 1974 to 1992 were converted to run on propane, many of them converted a second time to run on gas. Originally delivered to a Morgan dealer in Belgium and imported to the US by a diplomatic exemption, it was never converted and has the rare (in the US) aluminum standard height bumpers (without heavy shock absorbers), standard height windshield, less weight (no extra steel framing welded in with door pockets removed), correct ride height, no extra holes drilled all over the body, correct blinkers, not to mention dozens of additional changes (over 45 pages worth filed with the government) that were made on the converted cars. The Morgan factory Sales Manager has confirmed that only a handful of these factory-original, non-converted, left-hand drive +8's from this time period exist in the US. There were some gas-powered cars brought in by Cantab Motors but they were radically de-tuned and were actually slower than a +4. The factory claims that original Euro-spec +8's went from 0-60 in 5.2 seconds (in 1987 faster than a 911 Turbo to 80 mph). This car is extremely strong with an incredible sounding, true dual (originals in '87 were single pipe), free-flow ceramic coated exhaust with headers, Mallory distributor, MSD ignition and coil, K & N air filter, lithium plugs and MSD plug wires so it's probably a bit faster than stock. Also a supplementary adjustable Kenlowe electric fan for cool running, Avon adjustable tube shocks and stainless steel brake lines for a better brake pedal feel. Otherwise stock. Aluminum bumpers have been polished. Very solid car; doors close properly, side curtains, top and tonneau fit perfectly, no body flex in the usual places, no rattles, wood rot, rust, etc. Original paint is remarkable - no dings, dents, scratches, stress cracks, etc. The 87's had lots of recent factory upgrades including fuel injection, 5 speed gearbox (shifts beautifully), rack and pinion steering, better brakes, more interior room, and most importantly, galvanized chassis and Cuprinol wood treatment to prevent deterioration of the wood frame. Just out of long term storage, it was recently gone through by a factory Morgan dealer with thousands spent on updates, full maintenance, new high-performance tires, brakes, battery, plugs, all fluids and lots more. Actually have a Carfax report (clean) through early 2000's when it was stored. Mileage shows as 13,750. Conversations with previous owners, the dealer and original invoices showing mileage at the time indicate that this is correct. Top, side curtains, tonneau, owners manual, are original and in great shape. Windows and plexi are still clear! Not a car to buy if you're shy - gets incredible attention. Compare with +8's selling in the $60 - $70K range. An extremely rare, unmolested, low mileage Plus 8 needing absolutely nothing.
