Our Boxter has the strong running Porsche VarioCam
variable-valve-timing mechanism installed on the intake cams of
both of the 2.7-liter engines By optimizing valve timing a maximum
of 40 degrees over the rpm band, VarioCam increases engine
efficiency, yielding more power and a two-percent reduction in fuel
consumption.
The 2.7-liter engine now produces 225 horsepower at 6300 rpm (from
217 hp), and torque holds the line at 192 pound-feet backed by the
five-speed manual transmission.
The rear engine / rear wheel drive combination is Porsche's claim
to fame and provides a driving experience unlike any other sports
car.
The Porsche remains a purpose-built sports car that's designed to
go fast and provide optimum feedback while demanding the driver's
undivided attention. It rewards skilled pilots with an unparalleled
thrill ride and an unrivaled exhaust note.
Interior
The Graphite Grey Boxster Leather seats are firm and supportive,
and substantial bolstering holds occupants in place on tight turns.
The Boxster's cabin is good-looking, the gauge cluster is well laid
out, and it is in great shape and loaded with options.
It has power windows, power mirrors, leather seats, touch screen
radio, smooth shifting 5-speed manual, and the black top is in
excellent condition and fits nicely.
Exterior
The great white paint on this Porsche fits the lines very well and
looks very menacing too. It is a deep shiny paint job with great
body lines and fitment. The convertible top is black cloth and nice
as well.
It rides on aluminum alloy wheels are wrapped in high performance
black sidewall radial tires for a great look that is matched by
their performance.
It was tested in a magazine and the performance was from 0 to 60
mph: 5.1-6.8 sec, with the 1/4-mile at 13.8 and a top speed between
150-162 mph.
Conclusion
Our 2003 Porsche Boxster we have at Skyway Classics is a great
mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-passenger, 2-door roadster and a
great way to get into a Porsche without breaking the bank. This car
is a blast to drive and has killer good looks to boot.
