BMW's only mid-engine sportscar
One of 399 road-going examples
Accompanied by original, unopened first aid kit, tool roll, owners
manuals, spare key, spare wheel and tire
Rivalry has always been an effective catalyst for producing some of
the world's most well-designed sports cars. Companies always have
pushed their designs to the limit to beat out their competitors in
efforts to win the affection of consumers on the street and
championships on the track. The BMW M1, the Bavarian Motor
Company's first mid-engine sports car, was just that.
Conceptualized initially to go up against the likes of Porsche's
incredibly-dominant racers, the M1 became an iconic street car,
with its racing counterpart gaining widespread success in Group 4
racing. Born from competition, wearing Italian-designed bodywork by
Giorgetto Giugiaro and built by German specialty coachbuilder Baur,
the BMW M1 team effort created one of BMW's most iconic vehicles of
all time.
This BMW M1 was manufactured between October and December of 1980.
The M1 was then imported and delivered to BMW Italia in
Palazzolo/Verona. At the time, Don Rosen owned a BMW dealership in
Pennsylvania. After the launch of the M1, one of his customers
wanted to import an M1. Mr. Rosen located the M1 for sale at the
BMW dealership in Italy and arranged the purchase and imported it
to the United States on August 30, 1982. Once the M1 came to U.S.
soil, his customer was no longer interested in acquiring the car.
Mr. Rosen decided to retain the M1 using it as a showpiece on his
showroom floor, then ultimately stored it until 2015.
After 25 years Mr. Rosen agreed to sell the car to a longtime
acquaintance who continued to preserve the like-new M1.
Upon arriving at Canepa, the M1 was subjected to a comprehensive
inspection within our Service department and found in like-new
condition throughout. To be offered with a full mechanical service
and concourse-show-level "Canepa Difference" detail, Owners
Manuals, Spare Key, unopened First Aid Kit, Tool Roll, Spare Wheel
and Tire. This absolutely stunning all-original 1980 BMW M1 is
ready for its next caretaker to enjoy driving or keep it in a
collection. It is maintained and preserved to the highest standards
- a rare example of BMW's most iconic sportscar.
