For Sale: 1964 Pontiac GTO in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.  We can assist with financing and shipping as needed.

This 1964 Pontiac GTO is the real deal and represents the first true muscle car.  This beautiful model comes with PHS documentation to verify its authenticity.  It is also one of the nicest driving examples you will find with a number of recent upgrades.  These include air conditioning, power steering, and power front disc brakes.  Now you can have all the glory of a first-year GTO but without the cave man driving experience.

This car was sold new at Jim Causley Pontiac in the summer of 1964.  It has been repainted its original Code L – Marimba Red.  This color is not only a great look for the 1964 model but is also a factory iridescent paint so it has more pop than most finishes of the day.  All the correct GTO trim, badges, and emblems are in place.  The shiny Cragar S/S 15” wheels look right at home and wear BF Goodrich radial tires.  A set of Pontiac Rally II wheels is also included.

The drivetrain consists of a 389 cubic inch engine with a Carter 4-barrel (AFB) carburetor.  The original 3-speed manual transmission has been changed out in favor of a 4-speed Muncie for a little more shifting pleasure.  Note the clutch was recently replaced as well.  The rear end appears to be the original 3.25 unit and has new bearing and seals.

I can’t say enough about the excellent ride quality of this GTO.  It has such a great feel, not at all like you’d expect from a 60-year-old muscle car.  But then again it has seen a lot of recent work.  The old manual steering setup was upgraded to a power unit along with a front end alignment, resulting in easy and precise steering for anyone.  The car also received power front disc brakes along with new front wheel bearings.  Additional recent work includes new shocks, fuel tank and parking brake cables.

The interior is true to the GTO name with dual bucket seats and a floor shifter.  The dash features four main instrument pods along with heater / defrost controls.  The lights, wipers, horn, parking brake, and backup lights all work properly.  Note the radio delete plate; there is no sound system, though a speaker is present in the package tray.  There is a Pontiac tachometer on the column, and two underdash gauges for oil pressure and water temperature.  Another big addition is the Vintage Air a/c unit so you can remain comfortable on any summer day.

The GTO has always been one of most desirable cars of the 1960’s.  It is a great looking classic that still has an impact all these years later.  And while there are plenty of fakes out there, this one is the genuine article.  It drives better than new and features a 4-speed plus a/c.  It also includes a folder of receipts and PHS documentation.  Lots of good stuff from one of the lower priced 1964 GTO’s on the market.
