people claim that muscle cars were all but dead and gone by 1974
when this Road Runner was built. However, cars like this
440-powered Plymouth Road Runner GTX kept the flame alive providing
plenty of torque for fans of burnouts and stoplight drags. Adding
the optional 440 also meant special GTX identification that came
along as part of the deal and remained so up through 1974, the last
year for Plymouth's real Road Runner. Stock it had 275 horsepower
which is not bad, but the number that really matters here is
torque. With close to 400 foot-pounds of tire twisting grunt, these
cars have plenty of muscle under the hood to support their bold
looks. Only 386 of these GTX cars were produced. This car was built
for the Canadian market and is a low mileage example of the rare
Road Runner muscle cars. It has been repainted with its factory
Burnished Red Metallic and is complete with the correct GTX
appearance package. Fit and finish is very good and the car is just
stunning with a rich luster and shine. The white vinyl top sets off
the paint and GTX appearance package. The underbody of this car is
unrestored but rust free and has been undercoated. The suspension
is well maintained with fresh dual exhaust. Front suspension was
fully restored when the motor was removed and features power front
disc brakes and power steering. The white interior is largely
original in very good condition with new carpet. This car is nicely
optioned with full gauges and period correct Sun Super tachometer,
rear defogger, AM radio and sport steering wheel. Under the hood is
the numbers matching drivetrain, a 440 4bbl 275 hp with 400 ft lbs.
of torque, backed by the numbers matching 727 automatic
transmission. This power is transferred to the pavement via a
3.55:1 performance axle. This Road Runner rides currently on
aftermarket 15 inch aluminum rims with raised white letter tires
but the vehicle also comes with the factory 14 inch wheels complete
with center caps and trim rings and the original factory spare
tire. This car will be a stand out cruising the boulevard or
pulling into your local cruise in.
