The 1941 Chevrolet Master DeLuxe and Special DeLuxe were introduced
in September of 1941, and by then, with thousands of young men
already called up by the military, it was obvious that full U.S.
participation in World War II was imminent. In most respects the
1942 Chevrolet Master DeLuxe and Special DeLuxe models were
identical to the 1941 versions. The difference was a new grille and
front fenders that now extended partway across the doors.
For consignment a Chevrolet Deluxe Sedan from 1941. An abandoned
father and son project with Lilac metallic paint that works with
plenty of chrome to create the "look" of this chrome wheeled,
rounded over 4 door sedan that takes on a bit of a rodded twist,
but tastefully so, read on and dream on...
Exterior
With A curved "Groucho Marx" mustache grille highlighted in chrome
with Lilac bars leading the way along with a thin tarnished and
rusted chrome bumper below. Lilac paint with splotches of gray
primer applied covers the rounded fenders which flank the multi
vented side strip hood with a bulbous front which runs back to the
split 2-piece windshield. Running boards have gone by the wayside
and now just a little flare for the rockers between the rounded
front and rear fenders is seen. A thin trim spear at the belt line
encircles the passenger compartment and on the passenger's side we
see a frenched in power antenna on the rear quarter panel. On the
back, small frenched oval taillights flank the shaved trunk lid and
dual chrome tipped exhaust peek out from the bottom of the rear
bumper. Fully chromed and shiny steel wheels are wrapped up in thin
whites are seen on all 4 corners hanging out.
Interior
Inside a mixture of lilac and dark gray battle for real estate
space on the doors and dash. Lilac has won on the custom white
faced gauge dash with added air conditioning, and an aftermarket
pioneer AM/FM/Cassette but the gray wins for the tuck and roll
velour covered seats and felted headliner hanging tightly above.
Both front and rear seating appears to be original framing
recovered in the new material. The original clock is still taking
up residence in its factory location in front of the passenger and
we note a later model tilt steering column has been added. A shout
out to the trunk with its carpeted coverings and power antenna
controller.
Drivetrain
A fine example for the engine bay which remains largely original
save for plunking in a 350ci V8 Chevy complete with chrome valve
coverings and air cleaner assembly. A 4-bbl carburetor is bolted to
an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold on the top of the mill and on
back is a TH350 3-speed automatic tranny. A 10-bolt rear axle is on
for turning the tires.
Undercarriage
Just like my wife likes her filets, well done underneath with no
rust. A Mustang II independent front end featuring disc brakes, and
a leaf spring rear suspension with drum brakes is now on. Dual
exhaust with glasspack style mufflers make a melodious sound upon
fire up and pushing the accelerator in the direction of the
floorboard.
Drive-Ability
Another nice example that one interested in this era car can check
out, and you too will be pleasantly satisfied. As I was on the test
drive where all my experiences (acceleration, handling, cruising
and braking,) were all very positive with no complaints.
With some very nice mods, and wonderful exterior character that has
been retained creating a very unique piece. A few faults in the
paint but still presentable enough to drive while you formulate
your plans for the future to fulfill your dreams.
