Vehicle Description
1995 Jaguar XJR Sedan
Jaguar introduced a completely re-styled XJ-Series for 1994. The
base model was powered by a new AJ16 4.0 liter engine which
displaced 243ci and offered 245hp. A supercharged version, powering
the XJR, brought power to 322hp. The XJ12 came equipped with an
overhead-cam twelve-cylinder engine offering 313hp. Design of the
X300 was directly affected by the Ford Motor Company's ownership of
Jaguar (between 1990 and 2007).20 #fn20 According to Automotive
News, this was evident in general "product development processes",
more than the use of Ford components. However, the X300's traction
control system was obtained from the Ford Mondeo, and it also
featured a Nippondenso air conditioner purchased through Ford
channels.
Gracing our hallowed halls is this Jaguar XJR from 1995. A nice
4-door sedan able to whisk any executive or person of importance to
anywhere very quickly thanks in part to its 4.0 liter supercharged
6-cylinder coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission, full
leather interior and a gaggle of conveniences added in for extra
giggles.
Exterior
The X300 keeps much of the same exterior styling as its
predecessor, carrying its rounded four-headlamp bonnet, low
roofline, sloping tail, and wrap-around rear light clusters. From
the front, the various generations can be differentiated by the
shape of the indicator lenses, (swooping classy lines on the Series
III, squared off 80's styling on the XJ40). The front and rear
bumpers were both changed along with the taillights which had
aerodynamic lenses rather than traditional squared lenses. The
grille surround and badging was slightly changed. The headlight
fixtures also became more frenched into the fenders. All straight
rust-free steel bathed in black basecoat clearcoat that is showing
its age particularly on the flat horizontal surfaces, which are
showing paint fading, cracking and crazing. Paint chips are present
on the front bumper and are worn as a badge of courage from the
miles logged. 17" alloy wheels are wrapped in like new blackwall Z
rated rubber and keep the sports sedan motif flowing properly.
Interior
The X300 gave all the refinement and luxury touches an upgrade on
the sport/luxury sedan interior front. Door trim and the design of
the center console were also beautifully designed and are all
covered with a mix of beige leather and plenty of shiny lacquered
burl veneer. Leather covered buckets with age appropriate wear
flank a center console which has curves aplenty and rises to the
center of the dash and integrates seamlessly. In the center is
control central with all the buttons you'll need to have every
function and convenience work with the push of a button. We note
the standard digital climate control, factory AM/FM/Cassette player
and seat heater controls. Black Wilton carpeting floods the floors
and above is a felted headliner with a sunroof cutout in the
center.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, wedged in tightly and proudly announcing itself
sits the 4.0L supercharged DOHC inline 6-cylinder making a tire
shredding 322hp. On the back is a GM 4L80E 4-speed automatic
transmission and a 3.27 final drive ratio rear axle. All clean
under this hood.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust has erupted but it is a light coating and not on
all parts. Otherwise, solid structural underpinnings, clean floor
pans and a good exhaust system. Independent coil spring suspension
on all 4 corners with new rear shocks replaces the seemingly
problematic computer-controlled air suspension that formerly
controlled ride height, suspension mode and rear self-leveling.
Power 4-wheel disc brakes bring this luxury performer to a stop on
a dime and will give you change.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up with a growl, and off to the test track where it
did a cracking performance showing snappy acceleration, bias free
panic stopping, and good handling. This car is ONE comfy cruiser
which our consignor states loves to cruise at 70mph and also a raw
horsepower bruiser which can be easily taken on any superhighway.
No issues crept up during our cruise and it wasn't easy to
relinquish the keys. Yes! It's that much fun!
A luxury sedan from across the pond, supercharged power and lots of
leather and wood burl. Not perfect, but the perfect sports luxury
sedan for you. Quite right, you're bloody well right!
