Mechanical
The 2006 Corvette Z06 Coupe included the all-new 505 horsepower,
427-cubic-inch small block V-8 engine which featured a
racing-inspired dry-sump engine oiling system with titanium
connecting rods, titanium intake valves and a 7000 RPM redline.
Each of these engines were hand-built at General Motor's
Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan.
Ours has been modified even more with Ported and polished LS7
cylinder heads, Multi angle valve jobs, 11:5 compression, High
performance dual valve spring with titanium retainers, Stainless
steel exhaust valves, ZO6 cam, Callaway ZO6 C6 air induction, long
tube stainless steel headers, Hi-flow cats and crossover pipes,
Ported and polished throttle body, all making a Dyno tuned 650
horsepower and backed by the six-speed automatic transmission.
The size of the front wheel openings was increased to accommodate
the large black sidewall tires mated to five spoke 18 x 9.5 wheels
up front and the rear quarter panels received a pair of functional
air scoops, located just behind the driver and passenger doors,
which served as cooling ducts for the rear brakes to house the even
more impressive similar pair of five spoke wheels that were 19 x 12
inches, the largest rim/rubber configuration ever used on a
Corvette up to that point.
Ours has the red engine covers that are the first hint of the LS7
engine and everything else on this Z06 engine looks just like it
was when it left Bowling Green in 2006.
Interior
The 2006 Z06 Corvette featured special Z06 embroidery on the driver
and passenger seat headrests, heated leather seats, a
leather-wrapped steering wheel, a premium Bose sounds system with a
six-disc CD changer, satellite navigation, GM's OnStar
tracking/assistance feature, and an XM satellite radio system.
Gone from the Z06 interior were power controls for the passenger
seat, and less sound deadening material. The latter of these items
was intended to help in the reduction of the Z06's overall weight
as well as to provide drivers a more robust exhaust rumble inside
the car.
It has all the bells and whistles with the factory Z06 dash and
gauge package, head-up display that means you never have to take
your eyes off the road during performance driving, dual zone
climate control, power windows, power locks, keyless entry, power
mirrors, cruise control, and a Bose AM/FM/CD stereo system.
Exterior
In additional to improved structural rigidity, the Z06 featured a
number of other notable design cues that made the "super-Vette"
readily identifiable for the base model coupe. Up front, a slightly
altered fascia was installed that included a cold-air scoop in the
nose that fed cool, dense air into the intake.
In addition, the lower air dam was deeper, incorporating a larger
lower grille opening and functional front splitter to aid in down
force plus a small rear spoiler was also fitted to the rear deck
above the center high-mounted brake light.
Our Z06 has such low mileage on it the paint truly looks brand new
on the body. It is painted in the beautiful silver and has the
factory alloy wheels great performance black wall tires.
Conclusion
The very low mileage 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 we have here at
Skyway Classics has a much modified drive train on what is widely
acknowledged as one of the finest C6 Corvettes ever made.
