Vehicle Description
With an increasing demand for more fuel efficient vehicles in the
1970s, Ford attempted to downsize their entry for the 'personal
luxury' car segment. The result was the seventh generation
Thunderbird like you see here. This 1978 Ford Thunderbird is a
wonderful representation of that era and makes the perfect cruiser
for the enthusiast that is looking for a dependable classic.
The first thing that you'll notice on this Thunderbird is that dark
Green Metallic paint. It's just enough green to stand out and
receive complements with, but subtle enough that you don't have to
worry about it being too flashy. The contrasting white vinyl top
complements the green hue well and is accented even more with white
pin striping and chrome trim leading down the sides of the car.
Standing at the front of the car, it's easy to appreciate the
sculpted lines that lead your eyes down the hood to the chrome
grille that is topped by an admirable hood ornament and flanked by
the cool hideaway headlights. With big chrome bumpers at the front
and rear, the overall package comes together nicely to a classy
look.
Just looking at the car you can imagine the feeling of floating on
air, open the doors and take a seat on the plush cloth interior and
that feeling is confirmed. The green continues inside and covers
the bench seats up front and in the rear. The dash, steering wheel
and door panels are covered in the pleasant green hue as well,
accented with wood applique. The green-on-green combo works very
well and makes for a very comfortable cabin. To make the driving
experience even more comfortable, there is a power seat for the
driver and all of the luxuries and amenities you'd expect from a
car of this era are present, such as power steering, power brakes,
power window/locks/mirrors, AC, tilt wheel, cruise control, and an
AM/FM radio.
Powering this big coupe is a 351 cubic inch V8. Pop open the hood
and you can see that it has remained stock. With only 19,856 actual
miles on the car and signs of regular maintenance throughout, this
is essentially a time-capsule that's running and driving today just
like it did in the late-'70's. The presentation of the engine bay
is 100% stock, and although not overly detailed it's very clean and
tidy, while underneath it's as solid as can be and loaded with
original components everywhere you look, including the exhaust
system. The rear shocks are newer, which would help explain the
terrific ride quality, and with power steering and power front disc
brakes it's a delight to drive this beauty every time out. It was
meant to be enjoyed, and with so few clicks on the odometer there
are plenty more smooth-driving miles left for this T-Bird.
Color-matched turbine-style wheels finish off the 100% factory
presentation, and they come wrapped in Hankook think whitewall
radials with plenty of tread left.
With a low price and high entertainment value, this car is an
absolute bargain! It may not see the show field any time soon, but
this Thunderbird was meant to be enjoyed on the open road. It's
cars like this that make the hobby fun for everyone, whether you're
the driver of this green beauty or you spot it cruising down the
highway. Don't miss your chance to take this one home. Call
