First presented to the market in 1989, the 4th generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL class remains a favorite among collectors and drivers alike. The 1993 500SL was the last to carry Mercedes’ older nomenclature scheme that placed the “SL” range designation, which stands for Sportlich-Leicht, (Sport Lightweight) after the number representing the engine displacement. The number is in reference to the engine displacement, in this case the 5.0L V8.
The '93 500 SL Roadster featured many innovations for its time including the option of electronically controlled damping and a hidden, automatically extending rollover bar. It was the first fully automated convertible top in the industry, supplied standard with a detachable aluminum hardtop as well as an electro-hydraulically powered fabric folding roof. These SL line of cars feature modern technology and equipment designed in the pre-DaimlerChrysler days. Vehicles came out of the factory in Sindelfingen and was built with uncompromising quality.
This car presented at auction is in amazing, near show room condition. The paint shows deep, the soft top is pristine and the interior is excellent. The car comes with both tops and the removable hard top comes with a cover. The battery is brand new and the car sits on top of the line Michelin Radials that have less than 1,000 miles since new.
The car runs outstanding and is an absolute pleasure to drive! The Odometer shows under 65K miles!
