This car was originally purchased at Niantic Motors in East Lyme CT in 1970.
The original owner enjoyed the car as a second driver, putting a couple thousand miles a year on the car. The only thing he did to the car was to install two non stock VDO gauges on the dash, Oil pressure and Amps.
This car is original.
Original paint. Original interior. Original engine and transmission.
Aside from a couple of wear items such as tires, brakes, battery, oil and gas filter, nothing has changed since 1970.
There are a few small nicks/chips/scratches in the paint, however, the first owner took very good care of the car throughout his nearly 50 years and 38,000 miles of ownership. The condition of the paint in terms of shine is show worthy. The interior is in very good condition, with no rips or tears or heavy wear on the seats. The carpet only has some minor wear. The original owner made a point of at least starting and driving this car a little each year, to make sure it didn't start breaking down. When the current owner brought her home a few years ago, the car started up and drove the 10 miles home without any issues. An oil change and tune up were all that he did to the car. Unfortunately, as the current owner hasn't been able to drive and enjoy this car the way he felt he would have, he feels it's better to put her into the hands of someone who will treat her the way she deserves and who appreciates what an all original car is... Only original once. The current owner thought about doing the paint and touching up the few flaws but felt that doing that would ruin the overall originality, so she has been kept in that condition.
From the factory, per the supplied Marti Report, the car came with the Grabber Blue paint, Shaker hood scoop, rear deck spoiler, Trac-Lok differential with the optional 3.90:1 gearing, sport deck rear seat (fold down with opening into trunk), power steering, power brakes, AM/8 Track stereo, Tilt wheel, tinted glass, HD battery and the four speed manual transmission.
One might expect a "pony car" from the 70's to handle a bit like a brick, but the Boss and Mach 1 were designed for Trans Am racing and the suspension and large Goodyear F60-15 tires really hold the road well. The 290 HP 302 V8 really puts the torque to the ground and the 3.90 gears don't hurt, using the Hurst shifted 4 speed to keep her in her power curve, this car is really quite agile. The power discs up front and 10" drums bring her to a stop very easily.
With 38,882 miles, the car can still be driven a thousand or more miles a year without taking any kind of hit to the value, but one would want to be careful not to do anything to alter it's originality.
Overall, this car can stand it's own on the show field, the street and even on the track, it can be started and driven home, even if home is several hours away. She is ready to go.
I think I've mentioned that she's all original and finding another one like her in similar or better condition will be a very difficult search.
Asking price on this blue beauty is $92,500.
