This 1929 Ford Woody Wagon turns more heads and draws more smiles than just about anything we’ve had. While many old cars can be quite polarizing, this is one everyone seems to enjoy; just driving it around the block can cause all sorts of commotion.
This custom replica uses a steel frame fitted with a Mustang II style front end with rack and pinion steering and tubular control arms, while the rear uses a 4-link suspension with adjustable coilovers. The body is steel along with fiberglass fenders. And of course there is all that wood! It looks beautiful inside and out, and is nicely complemented by the shiny black paint and chrome wheels (17” front, 18” rear). Note the tilt-out windshield, suicide rear doors, and clamshell style tailgate. And that perfect stance!
The powertrain uses a rebuilt Chevy 350ci small block with a TH350 automatic transmission along with an S10 rear end. This is a proven recipe for any reliable street car. The engine features an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold topped by an AVS2 carburetor with electric choke. There is also a Mallory electronic distributor and an offset water pump for better fan positioning. Brakes are power front discs, while the manual steering requires surprisingly little effort due to the car’s weight.
The interior is mostly wood along with bench seats front and rear. Note the rear seat can be easily folded and tipped forward for more storage space. The wooden “headliner” is probably my favorite feature; it looks fantastic and is well done. There are also contrasting door and dash panels along with rear door sill inserts. There is a tilt steering column along with center mounted gauges, all of which work properly. That flows down to an AM/FM/CD head unit followed by a fuse compartment. The car also has power windows along with a functional horn and wiper. And finally, the dash is fitted with a traffic light prism for a little added nostalgia.
This car just oozes character and represents something you don’t see very often. Note it is titled as a 1929 Ford as well. Whether you want to make a scene at the local drive-in or strap on a surfboard and head to the beach, this Woody Wagon lets you do it in style.
