Skyway Classics has a super rare 1973 DeTomaso Pantera painted in
Grabber Blue here for sale. When is the last time you have seen one
of these rare Supercars for sale anywhere?
Alejandro De Tomaso, who produced the Mangusta Coupe, commissioned
Lamborghini designer Gianpaolo Dallara to produce the chassis for a
Ford/Mercury Motor Company project, the mid-engine supercar by the
name of Pantera.
Ford Motor Company became DeTomaso's partner for the introduction
of this car series in 1971. Like the earlier Mangusta, the Pantera
relied on a Ford V8 power plant backed by a ZF 5-speed
transaxle.
Pantera was distributed through select Lincoln-Mercury dealerships
in the USA until 1974, and ours has been modified to make it a very
fast street and track car.

Mechanical
This 1973 DeTomaso Pantera has just a tad over 41,000 original
miles on the odometer. The built 351 cubic inch engine in this
Pantera is a Cleveland Ford V8 that produced 266 horsepower and 301
lb-ft of torque with single 4-barrel carburetor when new, but now
has over 450 horsepower and we have a dyno sheet that show it
plants 390 of those horses at the rear wheel.
It has been rebuilt with aluminum heads, finned aluminum valve
covers, K&N air filter system, performance Holley carb,
aluminum intake, and a ZF 5-speed manual transmission.
This supercar is better looking and more powerful than new and has
been modified into a track car as well as a super street car with a
lowered independent unequal length A-arm suspension with front and
rear anti-sway bars that works with rack-and-pinion steering for
supercar-level road control.
The Pantera rolls on fat super wide black sidewall radial
performance tires mounted on custom wheels made in Australia and
has other mods such as a custom built radiator with dual cooling
fans, dual fuel tanks with the stock one and a racing fuel cell up
front, and racing triple safety harnesses inside the cockpit.
Interior
Our exotic Pantera offers an interior just as worthy of praise as
does the engine and exterior. It consists of twin bucket seats with
aromatic and supple leather upholstery and tweed inserts.
The dash is angular and has large clusters of gauges front and
center with auxiliary gauges on the center stack cleverly angled
towards the driver.
It has A/C but the Sandison air compressor on the car has been
disconnected and a spare one goes with the sale.
The 5-speed gearbox looks great with the Ferrari-like polished gate
and electric windows add luxury to the '70s-perfect interior. A 200
MPH speedometer and tachometer are ready to gauge 6-second 0-60 MPH
launches and the Pantera's over 175 MPH top speed.
This rare supercar can literally be driven every day in comfort
without issues and it will really impress everyone in attendance at
the track.
Exterior
This American-market Pantera has a super bright Grabber Blue paint
job that shines as the paint just flows over the sleek body with
the scooped hood, exhaust tips, and fender flares.
This low mileage Pantera has drop-dead looks, blistering
performance and extreme rarity, this Pantera has it all.
Conclusion
The 1973 DeTomaso Pantera we have here at Skyway Classics is an
iconic Italian-American Supercar that delivers jaw-dropping
performance and the exotic looks that will make it a celebrity
everywhere it goes.
