Gorgeous 1966 Corvette convertible, numbers matching 327ci,
automatic, heavily optioned including A/C!
Check out this 1966 Corvette convertible now available at
LaFontaine Classic Cars. There is something special about driving a
Corvette, especially the C2 platform that were produced from 1963
through 1967. The second-generation Corvette is arguably the most
desirable as well as collectable of all years produced. Starting
with the iconic '63 ""Split Window"", then in 1964, Chevrolet
introduced the first year of the 327/375hp Fuel Injected engines,
1965 introduced the first available big-block engine offering the
396ci, then in 1966 and 1967, Chevrolet released the new 427ci in
multiple horsepower configurations topping out with the 435hp
tri-power. 1967 offered a handful of the RPO ""L88"" models, but
that's a story for another time.
This beautiful 1966 Convertible is in excellent condition with
normal wear in the usual areas, the engine is fine-tuned resulting
in effortless cold starts and smooth acceleration whenever the need
arises. The ride is firm and predictable so you can drive with
confidence on those twisty back roads.
The body on this '66 is straight and smooth providing the perfect
surface for the sophisticated factory color code ""986"" Silver
Pearl paint applied during the restoration process some years ago.
The chrome accessories and stainless-steel trim are all in
excellent condition with badges and emblems correctly positioned
looking like new. This C2 is being sold with both hard top and soft
top, both are in very good condition and fit correctly without any
fuss.
The cockpit extends the silver color theme with factory trim code
""427BB"" Silver/Black featuring rare silver Leather seat covers
providing a more comfortable ride, a step above the typical vinyl
covers. New silver door panels, and carpeting were installed along
with new stainless steel sill plates. The silver was a color change
from the original black interior during the restoration, the stock
trim tag is included with the sale. The dash was refinished in
black as it came from GM and looks great with clear glass lenses,
functional gauges, and the large speedometer and tachometer front
and center. The beautiful wood grain steering wheel is said to be
original and is bolted to the factory optional and rare telescopic
steering column. Additional options include power windows,
automatic transmission, functional air conditioning, power 4-wheel
disc brakes, and power steering.
Lifting the hood reveals the popular, numbers matching 327 cubic
inch engine rated at 300hp, providing plenty of power to make
anyone smile. While inspecting the engine accessories, we found
most of these components to be correct for this particular Corvette
such as the alternator, intake manifold, carburetor, exhaust
manifolds, and single point distributor that still wears its
original metal tag. Directly behind the engine is the 2-speed
Powerglide transmission sending power back to the factory original
rear end stamped with ""AK 11 9 65"", deciphered to a build date of
November 9, 1965 spinning 3.36:1 gears with an open
differential.
Wheels are the correct appearing 15"" Turbine style wrapped with
gold stripe, 205/75/15 Firestone tires on all 4 corners.
