The magnificent 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long-Wheelbase Touring Limousine featured here is finished in gorgeous Dark Pine Lacquer over a beige Connolly leather interior surrounded by magnificent burl walnut woodwork throughout. This incredible motorcar is one of just 94 built-in left-hand drive and was special ordered with many unique features and delivered new to Dassault Aircraft Corporation in France. This Silver Cloud III eventually made its way to its second owner in Santa Monica, California who, after many years of ownership, sold it to its next owner who commissioned a no-expense-spared restoration by Marquis specialist Vantage Motorworks. Upon completion, it remained in his prominent collection until our acquisition. We have just performed a comprehensive service and recommissioning and this exquisite example is ready for its next caretaker. This is an incredible opportunity to own what I believe to be one of the very best restored 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long-Wheelbase Touring Limousine on the market today! For the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who aspires to own only the very best!
Considered the Silver Cloud series’ pinnacle, the Silver Cloud III was unveiled in Paris in the fall of 1962. The most prominent changes were the inclusion of a four-headlamp layout. Additionally, the radiator grill was shortened, and the bonnet was given a slightly increased slope. An improved interior contributed to the 220lb loss of weight over the Silver Cloud II. The Crewe engineers were able to increase the power to weight ratio by 7% due to an increase in both the compression ratio and the carburetors’ size. The Silver Cloud III was the last Rolls-Royce model produced using body-on-frame construction, and the last example was finished by hand at the Crewe factory in 1966. Only 2,044 Silver Cloud III were built during the short three-year production run, which was the lowest of all the Silver Cloud Series. The Silver Cloud’s quality and craftsmanship helped elevate it from every other car ever built and showed the world how good Rolls-Royce was at producing an artistic masterpiece.
For all of you who are not familiar, Rolls-Royce no longer exists as it has for the past hundred years; BMW now owns it, and models are mass-produced. The days of cars being handcrafted by artisans in Crewe are now just a fond memory. This particular car was constructed during a time when Rolls-Royce was building the world’s finest motorcars with care and craftsmanship evident in every detail, and we are proud to offer it to the most astute collector, investor, or enthusiast who appreciates the hand-assembled quality that helped to make Rolls-Royce one of the most prestigious motorcars ever constructed.
