Vehicle Description
This Terra is a family heirloom. Bought by a family back in 1978
(1979 year model manufactured in 1978) and sold in 1996.
the son of the original owner found it and bought it back in 2008
At that point, it was still completely original - it had been
sitting under a tarp for several years - but the powertrain had
quite a bit of wear and tear (the body and frame were still
amazingly dent and rust-free). Much restoration work was completed
in 2013, and it has only been street-driven on weekends ever since.
This Scout also has its Line setting ticket " build sheet" showing
all options and extensive restoration photos.
It does have some non-stock upgrades (ex. a 4" lift kit), but no
modifications to the frame, body, or axles sawed/welded/modified in
any way. In other words, the truck can easily be reverted to
completely stock configuration - every upgrade has been a bolt-in
replacement.
You wont see too many Terras anymore. The Terra has a 118 inch
wheelbase (18 inches longer than the Scout II), and a fiberglass
Terra top (half top). The additional 18 inches are between the
doors and rear wheels.
The powertrain on this truck (345 V8 engine, T19 wide ratio 4-speed
manual transmission, Dana 20 transfer case, driveshafts, Dana 44
axles, hubs) is stock. The original 345 engine was recently
replaced with a working 345 with good oil pressure. When purchased
in 2008, the speedometer was broken and had to be replaced, so the
mileage shown in any pictures or videos is not accurate. The
mileage on the truck is unknown a this point but likely not more
than a few thousand since it was restored.
The Scout was professionally repainted the original IH Lexington
Blue. The truck originally had the 1979 custom stripe (3-stripe)
vinyl decals running along the sides. The truck is very straight
and solid. All body panels, doors, hood, and tailgate are factory
sheet metal.
Features/upgrades:
Champion 3 row aluminum radiator (drop-in replacement for factory
radiator, reuses factory mounting holes and fan shroud)
Replaced original International 345 V8 engine with used running 345
(factory spread bore intake with new Edelbrock 1406 carburetor).
All seals on the 345 were replaced, and a remanufactured oil pump
was installed. The engine compartment was cleaned up and repainted.
The mileage on the 345 is unknown, but it runs well with good oil
pressure.
Low-profile air filter, since the Edelbrock requires an adapter
plate on the intake manifold. Carburetor options are available that
can use the stock air filter.
Lokar throttle linkage (no modifications to mount - easily reverted
to stock linkage)
Factory power steering (stock Saginaw gearbox and pump), except the
factory rag joint was upgraded to a Borgeson joint
Hi-torque starter motor
RPT motor mounts and manual transmission mount (all drop-in
replacements for the stock parts)
Straight steer brace
Factory brake system: disks in front, drums in rear, stock parking
brake
Factory dash with factory gauges. The speedometer has been replaced
and does not show the actual mileage, which is unknown. A
mechanical oil pressure gauge was added(which shows PSI) to
supplement the stock electrical one (which does not). It is mounted
under the dash using the factory dash mounting screws, and is
easily removed.
