In 1972, Aston Martin kicked back against the established order; after the beautifully subtle DB4, -5 and -6 models, Aston made a statement. It had to be clear once and for all, that the average Aston driver also had hair on his or her chest. So came the V8 (Volante). Daring, but an instant hit. It was as if Prince Charles gave a nod to Mrs Monroe. End result? A 5.3-litre V8, thickly set hips and almost a muscle look. And yet, still the class and flair of an Aston. We think it's at least as successful as the other combinations of elegance and performance from Feltham!
And then to the feeling of being a gentleman. As soon as you get in, you notice that this is still a real car. Real wood for the interior trim, real Connolly leather and real aluminium. And when you wake it up? Another real V8 engine, which makes atmospheric horses squeal. They are generally a bit more spoilt and drink a bit more, but hey, the sound and the experience; Unbeatable!
Ours? A bit extra special. She was totally restored (nut and bolt) and overhauled a few years ago. During the overhaul the engine was rebuilt to the 5.7 litre, which means extra spoilt horses for your long driveway. Because that standard 304 HP is trouble, Charles! Her entire interior has been replaced with new Connolly cows and everything has been brought back in detail to how she once gave out her first smiles a litre. This has also been recognised (and badged) by the Aston Martin Heritage club. Now you, neighbour! See you soon.
