The 1989 Mustang... is the ultimate Mustang. €" Magazine
advertisement The ad copy went on to explain: The combination of a
5.0-liter V8 engine delivering 225 horsepower at 4,200 RPM,
quick-ratio power steering, unidirectional tires, and Ford's
Quadra-shock suspension make it technically more advanced than its
predecessor. Yet, after 25 years of evolution, it's still youthful,
still vigorous, still Mustang. And a mere touch of the throttle can
still release the magic that is only Mustang. Ford Mustang. An
object of America's affection for 25 years. Offered here is a 1989
Ford Mustang LX Convertible in Scarlet Red (Code 2D) over Oxford
White/Dark Red (Code N) under a power-operated white fabric soft
top. This is a survivor Fox-body Mustang drop-top in excellent
condition, fully serviced within the past 12 months. The exterior
non-metallic red paint has been properly maintained through the
years. The color is uniformly bright with great luster across the
body, including on the painted impact-absorbing bumpers and
lower-body panels. A single, thin-gray pinstripe accents the body.
(To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please
be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the
accompanying gallery.) Black-finished trim-on the window surrounds,
door handles, front-and-rear bumpers, side rub-strips, and
rear-deck luggage carrier-show very well. The original white-fabric
top fits properly and is free of rips, tears, or significant signs
of use. Factory badging includes the Ford blue-oval emblems and
Mustang-embossed lower-body identification front and rear, 5.0
engine emblems on the front fenders, and LX badge on the rear deck.
All cabin glass-including the rear window in the convertible top-is
clear and free of cracks. Original-equipment, 10-hole, 15-inch
alloy wheels with Ford-logo center caps are mounted with 225/60
General® AltiMax RT43 all-season performance tires. The car's
interior color combination of white and dark-red is a delight.
Vertically pleated white leather upholstery covers the
classic-style front buckets and rear, 2-position bench seat. The
convertible boot cover is also white; seat belts are dark red. Door
trim marries both white and red in contrasting horizontal panels
with red carpeting on the kick-panels; power-window and door-lock
controls and factory-mounted audio speakers are located on the
doors. Cabin carpeting is red with Mustang-branded all-weather
rubber protective mats. A 2-spoke black steering wheel with
cruise-control push-buttons and a blue-oval crest frames the
comprehensive analog instrument cluster set in the
black-and-dark-red dashboard. Instrument and switchgear markings
are crisp. The factory audio system and HVAC controls are located
on the center stack; the t-bar shift lever for the automatic
transmission and power-outside-mirror controls are located on the
red center console, forward of the handbrake lever and a
combination storage compartment-armrest. (Please view the close-up
photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Mustang's
various interior surfaces.) The car's trunk is tidy and clean.
Under the hood, the 5.0-liter, 225-horsepower, High Output Ford V8
occupies a very clean engine bay. Engine and component surfaces are
original with no indication of any aftermarket modifications; there
are no added bits of chrome. Viewed from below, the
