Extra color coordination, an extra vintage interior, and extra
power from the recently rebuilt 454 big block are all what make
this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS tribute an extra special muscle
car.
The paint holds close to 1970's Cranberry Red. So you have the
bright look of a coupe that was updated to a vibrant color later in
life. And the radiance continues everywhere from the chrome bumpers
to the polished American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with a sporty
18/20-inch front/rear stance. It has all the right Super Sport
upgrades with the blackout hood, blackout rear panel, SS badging,
wide dual exhaust tips, and powder dome cowl hood. And we
especially like the look of the white racing stripes. They not only
look distinct against the red paint, but they also coordinate well
with the white vinyl top to give this hardtop some thoughtful
distinction.
We love the look of a good bench seat interior. It just makes you
want to go looking for a drive-in. Plus, the deep black carpeting,
smooth dash, and classic Malibu upholstery make for the right look
on a driver-ready coupe. The dash has the right classic look, and
this even has the controls for a factory A/C car (it will need the
rest of the components to restore the function.) And this also has
the right driver-oriented features. This includes the desirable
tilt steering column, a Muncie floor shifter, and an auxiliary
gauge trio under the dash.
This is the kind of motor that will make you proud to lift the hood
at car shows. The 454 cubic-inch V8 was rebuilt only a few months
ago, and we have the $6k receipt to prove it. Of course, the
freshness is the real proof where you see all the bright pieces
radiating from within the dark inner walls. But when you look
beyond the nice presentation you feel a meaner attitude. The big
block inhales deeply through an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor
and Edelbrock intake. It exhales with added authority and power as
long-tube headers feed the rumbling dual exhaust and Flowmaster
mufflers. Best of all, the four-speed manual transmission puts you
in the center of the action. Control stays well in hand thanks to
power steering, power brakes, front discs, an SS-style rear, and
modern sport tires afforded by the wheel upgrade.
If you're going to get a big block Chevelle, do it right. Get one
with a sharp style, four-on-the-floor, and a fresh/powerful heart.
