Numbers Matching 427c.i. 435hp! Tri-Power, 4-Speed, Top Shelf
Restoration, Al Grenning Authenticated L71, The Ultimate
Corvette!
The team at LaFontaine Classic Cars is very proud to release this
incredible piece of automotive muscle car history - a 1967 Corvette
L71 Coupe, 1 of only 3754, that has undergone a no expense spared
restoration, bringing it back to its former glory.
The restoration was performed during prior ownership and began by
disassembling the car, including removing the body from the frame
for easier access to areas normally hard to get to - this results
in a more thorough, detailed, finished product. Countless hours
were spent sanding the original color blue down to bare fiberglass,
then meticulously primed and sanded until the surface was suitable
for the new RPO code ""900"" Tuxedo Black hue. When it was time to
spray the color, it was applied in multiple coats to assure a flat,
smooth, finish, followed up by carefully rubbing out the surface,
then polishing the entire body to a mirror-like finish. When the
time came to reassemble the body, new or refurbished items were
installed including all lenses and bezels, chrome/stainless
components including bumpers, door handles, side view mirror, and
window trim. Additional items included chambered side-pipe exhaust
and shields, lower front grill, with new emblems and badges in
their correct location.
The frame was completely disassembled and sandblasted, then treated
to multiple coats of primer followed by the semi-gloss black for an
OEM look. Upon reassembly, new or refurbished suspension and
steering components were installed from front to rear such as, new
rear leaf spring, front coil springs, steering gear, shocks,
control arms, related bushings, and so much more. The assembled
body and frame were reunited using new stock type body bushings to
keep interior vibrations to a minimum. Lifting the hood reveals
Chevrolet's flagship engine for 1967, the numbers matching 427
cubic inch big-block, topped with a special aluminum intake
manifold with (3) 2-barrel factory Holley carburetors, topped by a
chrome triangular air filter lid wearing the decal that says it
all, ""Turbo-Jet 427 3/2 435 Horsepower"". It is this engine
package that makes this Corvette so valuable, and even better, it
is the same exact engine that the car was born with. While the
entire drivetrain was rebuilt during the restoration, the 427
received special attention to make sure the numbers on the block
were preserved as this is the only way to verify the engine was
born in this chassis. This engine has been rebuilt to factory
specifications with 11:1 compression ratio, rectangle port iron
cylinder heads, and solid lifter camshaft. Shifting duties are
handled by a butter-smooth shifting Muncie 4-speed transmission
sending power back to the original independent rear end with center
differential housing stamped ""FB 5 10 67"" decoded to 4.10 gears,
posi differential, assembled on May 10, 1967. All three rear
driveshafts were treated to new u-joints and hardware to hold up to
the power of this L71 427.
Looking inside shows a completely reconditioned interior in its
factory color code ""414"" Bright Blue. The bucket seats received
new vinyl covers, new door and kick panels were installed along
with matching carpet and headliner. The storage compartment behind
the front seats still houses a factory jack that is more for looks
these days. Window crank, door latch handles, and chrome 4-speed
shifter all look great, as well as the dash board with functional
gauges, accurate speedometer, a, and 6500 rpm red-line tachometer.
Factory heater and blower motor controls work like new as well as
the manual vents down low. The center of the dash houses the
factory clock and AM/FM radio with new rear mounted antenna mast.
