Vehicle Description
Attractive older restoration. Upgraded with 12-volt electrical
system and electric fuel pump. Dual side mounts, fog lights, horns,
and trunk make for a very impressive look. Torquey inline-6,
spacious interior. Nice entry-level collector car that can be
upgraded along the way.Compared to its competition at the Ford and
Chevrolet stores, this Dodge looks like a lot more car for the
money. Bigger, smoother, more refined, it's surprising that Dodge
wasn't the sales leader. OK, it was a bit more expensive, but look
how much more car you got for your money! This big, handsome green
sedan has a lot of presence, particular with dual sidemounts, and
looks like it should cost a lot more than it does. The restoration
is probably 40 years old at this point and it's showing some signs
of age, but there's nothing to stop you from enjoying this car
as-is. The paint shines up nicely, the chrome is decent, and
nobody's going to pick nits when they see it cruising down the
street. All four doors fit well and close with a reassuring THUNK
and it has a far more prestigious look than the other guys. Of
note, there are the usual nicks and chips in the paint, there's a
single hairline crack in the windshield, and the taillights are
Model A pieces, but those are all easy things to fix to take the
car up a notch. The fog lights are wired in as turn signals for
safety and it wears accessory mirrors on the sidemounts to help
navigate today's traffic.Inside there's a spacious, well-appointed
interior. There's some merit to the idea that the upholstery might
be original, and if that's the case it's in fantastic condition. It
certainly looks authentic and the green mohair is a nice complement
to the dark green bodywork. The carpets have obviously been
replaced and there are some modern gauges under the dash, but
otherwise it looks quite like it would have in 1930. Factory gauges
are mostly operational except the fuel gauge and ammeter (12 volt
conversion), with an aftermarket temperature gauge and tachometer
(the blank blue dial) underneath. The tach isn't work and I'm not
sure why you'd need one in a car like this, but it does light up
and come online when you turn the key. The other factory controls
remain operational, including the hand choke and starter knob on
the dash. Headlight controls are on the steering wheel hub and the
transmission is the usual 3-speed manual. There's nice chrome
hardware on the doors, a tilt out windshield with cowl vent keeps
it cool inside, and the back seat is comfortable for two and
functional for three. And with a trunk out back, this would make a
great tour car for AACA and VMCCA events.Dodge's 208 cubic inch
inline-6 was reliable and rugged, and delivers a nice dose of
low-end torque to make the car feel lively around town. It's been
upgraded with a 12-volt generator, but that's the only major
modification and it runs quite well. With 12 volts running through
it, the starter kicks it over vigorously and thanks to an electric
fuel pump, it starts quickly and easily (the original vacuum tank
is still in place and may be functional, we have not tested it).
Wearing a coat of corporate turquoise engine enamel, it's
reasonably well dressed, including an accessory oil filter
cannister, which was optional in 1930. The 3-speed manual
transmission is not synchronized, so brush up on your double
clutching, but it cruises easily at 45 MPH without breaking a
sweat. And perhaps most notable, Chrysler products have hydraulic
brakes, so stopping is sure and confident and feels surprisingly
modern. It also includes shock absorbers at all four corners, which
was still not a sure thing in 1930, and the exhaust makes a nice
6-cylinder grumble that quiets down on the road. Six 19-inch wire
wheels add an elegant touch and carry 6.50-19 blackwall tires for
just the right look. Please realize that this car has not been
mis-priced and it is not perfect. However, it's solid, clean, and
runs well, so you can add value while you enjoy it. It's a bit
unusual and will stand out from the typical entry-level Model As,
and the big car look really is impressive in person. It's a
likeable car that's reasonably priced and offers the handy
enthusiast an opportunity to add value. Not many cars can say the
same. Call today!NOTE: This car is titled by engine number.Harwood
