since completion A year after Barris created the Hirohata Merc,
demand grew not waned among hot-rodders. Even 70 years later,
Mercury Eights remain coveted for their hot-roadability or
crunkability if you prefer. And yah, it's got a Hemi! This Mercury
Eight Custom Coupe restomod example was originally made in Ford?s
Los Angeles, California (code LA) factory and has since been
treated to a frame-off restoration with a FatMan frame stub with
powder-coated black frame and independent front suspension.
Finished in a custom black iridescent paint with custom striping,
the paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The trunk?s
cargo area is very tidy and matches the interior. The bodywork is
straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy and the chrome
bumpers fit tightly to the body. We purchased this amazing sled
from the 86 year old owner/builder who spent almost 18 years
building his dream cruiser. He searched for over 10 years to find a
rust free California coupe before starting the project. This Merc
rolls on wide whitewall tires mounted on steel wheels and topped
with Cadillac wheel covers for some whimsy and old school cool!
Under the hood is a rebuilt and balanced 392 CID Hemi V-8 with
Hothead valve covers and dual exhausts. It?s mated to a four-speed
700R automatic transmission and backed by a nine-inch rear end.
Driver convenience features include Vintage air-conditioning and
dual exterior spotlights. We have receipts for the rebuild
including new pistons, rings, and connecting rods. It was fully
balanced as well with only 896 miles on the clock from the time of
rebuild. Inside, there is Nuance Cognac front and rear bench seats
with tuck-and-roll upholstery. The seats, tan carpet and headliner
are all in excellent condition, while the black, two-spoke steering
wheel is in very good order. The car features an Ididit steering
column and the original dash has Dakota Digital gauges rewired with
American Autowire. An Alpine stereo complete with SiriusXM rounds
out the interior. If you?ve always wanted to own a Ford product of
this era, now?s your chance! Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today
