1967 Ford Ranchero 500, "Z" code 390ci / 4-Speed, original mileage,
numbers matching, very rare option package, Marti Report, runs and
drives great!
The Ranchero was first introduced back in 1957 during a time when
the Ford Motor Company was trying everything to gain the title of
"King of the truck world" held by Chevrolet. In 1953, the new F100
pick-up was released and brought Ford close to regaining the title,
but the release of the new 1955 Chevrolet trucks kept Chevy on top.
In 1957, Ford overhauled its truck fleet and introduced the first
ever modern cross-over vehicle aimed at farmers and ranchers
looking for something more inviting than a work truck.
The Ranchero caught on fairly quickly because of its new "best of
both worlds" capabilities. As the platform changed over the years,
it wasn't until Ford released the third generation that offered the
"FE" big-block under the hood. 1967 was the final year of the third
gens, with available, top-of-the-line powerplant, the Hi-Po
390.
Check out this very rare 1967 Ranchero offered by the team at
LaFontaine Classic Cars. This truck shows only 61,234 original
miles on the odometer. Under the hood you will find the Hi-Po 390ci
FE big-block and upgraded Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor delivering
a factory rated 320 hp, with a stump pulling 420 ft lbs of torque.
The engine is in great running condition and is a blast to drive,
especially with its 4-speed, top-loader transmission providing
smooth shifts while transferring all of that torque to the rear
axle. In this case, the factory original 9" rear end is still
intact spinning stock 3.00 gears with its limited slip differential
applying power to both rear tires for maximum acceleration that
will come in handy when that Chevy El Camino pulls along side and
gives a nod.
The Ranchero's interior is a mix of regular cab pick-up and
mid-size sport coupe. Sporting a bench seat, 4-speed shifter on the
floor, and large rear window providing great visibility. Prior
owner states the truck had undergone a restoration back in 2004
that included recovering the seats, refurbishing or replacing
interior panels and brightwork, and adding new carpet and headliner
- all in the factory trim code "4D" Red. The body panels were all
sanded, primed, then block sanded until the surface was nice and
flat, providing the base for multiple final coats of primer and
factory color code "A", Raven Black paint. The final touch was the
optional factory red pin stripe, a perfect accent extending the
entire length of the truck, and reapplied during the restoration
process.
This Ranchero was factory equipped with the following options: Red
paint stripes, limited slip differential, courtesy light group,
power drum brakes, tinted glass, heavy duty suspension, and the
ultra-rare factory tachometer - still intact. Wheels are factory
14" steel rally style, wrapped with P215/70/R14 white letter
radials on all 4 corners for a sporty look.
