Vehicle Description
1969 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern
era with its C/K series lineup. The "C" designation identified
two-wheel-drive pickups, and the "K" identified 4X4s. The most
common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot
cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same
vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when
the 1998 Silverado replaced it.
Chevrolet produces some of the finest trucks on the planet and has
been doing so for a long time. Within each model range their avid
fans, and this 1969 iteration is no exception. A former Arizona
truck painstakingly and lovingly restored, the consigner states the
door seals, windshield, heater core, wiper motor, controls, and
vacuum pump are all new. Add in a 350ci V8 with some goodies and
you have a truck modified definitely for the better, we have a
winner! Bingo.
Exterior
Finished in a white respray, there are some waves in the bodywork,
areas of bodywork cracking, a few rust bubbles, runs in the paint
and areas of rattle can touch ups around the gaps, but the paint
remains presentable. The chrome is in overall good condition along
with badging and trim. Up front, single headlights in a chrome
bezel flank a chrome tie bar across the egg crate grille and above
a blue bowtie embellishment leads the way to the long steel hood.
In the long steel bed, we note spray in bedliner for the sides and
wheel houses and making up the bed floor are oak planks with black
delineation strips. While solid, the oak is showing some age
related wear but remains strong. 15" aluminum wheels are on all 4
corners and are wrapped in knobby 31x10.50R15 blackwall BF Goodrich
rubber.
Interior
A complete redo inside here with pristine white door panels, nice
door handles and cranks and an added speaker below. Looking inside
there is a new bench seat with white vinyl tuck and roll inserts
and vinyl bolsters both in black. A bowtie logo has been stitched
into the center upper section of the seat and provides a nice
touch. A Grant GT steering wheel atop the factory column fronts the
original dash. A white padded top all steel dash which matches the
exterior houses the original gauge cluster with some added gauges,
heater controls, and an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD. The glove box
door sits in front of the passenger, while rubber floor mats, in
good condition flood the floor, and above we note a simple ribbed
steel headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the long heavy steel hood sits a late model 350ci V8. This
sits in a dusty and patinaed engine bay, and an Edelbrock
carburetor sits atop. A 3-speed automatic TH400 transmission is
attached to the back of this powerful engine and 12-bolt rear is
also noted. Scanning the engine bay we see a newer brake master
cylinder, a new vacuum pump, and a serpentine accessory belt drive
setup. Also, we see an A/C compressor but no lines or supporting
components.
Undercarriage
The strong black frame provides the backbone for the gray painted
wood and steel underside of the bed and road drip splattered cab.
We note one area of rust on the passenger side of the cab floor
near the rocker which has been repaired from within but all else is
solid. We also see power drum brakes for all 4 corners and an
independent front suspension with coil springs working in
conjunction with a 3 link coil spring rear suspension. Headers work
their way down to a glass pack style mufflers and dual exhaust.
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and this engine comes to life with a throaty
growl. Slipping the selector into D and we were off to the races,
or rather the Classic Auto Mall acreage, where the transmission
shifted smoothly, no hesitation in the engine, and a typical truck
ride. The new interior proved to be comfortable.
A decent quality restoration with many new parts applied to a rust
free solid bodied truck. A few faults on the paint and bodywork
front but overall, a nice job, and we have a truck available for
the 69 era C-10 fans.
