Vehicle Description
1990 Ford F350 Stake Body
The great-great-grandfather to the F-150 was the Ford F-1 which
debuted for 1948. It quickly became a favorite of farmers and small
business owners. Despite its name, it never participated in a
Formula 1 race. The F-150 moniker itself debuted for the 1975 model
year, as the name for Ford's half-ton pickup which slotted between
the lighter-duty F-100 and the heavier-duty F-250. Massive
popularity soon ensued. How massive? So much so that the Ford
F-Series has been not only the best-selling pickup for nearly 40
years running, but the best-selling vehicle for the last 34 years.
It has consistently outsold such hugely popular rides as the Honda
Accord and Toyota Camry. The F-Series trucks are so popular that
their total production comes in at a whopping 32 million trucks. In
2018 Ford sold over 1.075 million F-Series trucks, averaging a sale
every 29.3 seconds.
For consignment, a 3rd generation of the popular Ford F series
truck and this one comes to us in stake body format. Our consignor
states it has a now carbureted new performance engine, rebuilt
transmission, new fuel tank, and all the repair orders for the
engine and installation. Get ready to haul here at the Classic Auto
Mall.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Medium Scarlet and gray primer bathes the straight steel of this
pickup that shows no areas of invasive rust. The hood shows the
worst of the paint flaws with primer coating the front and various
areas of primer and thin paint throughout. The grille and front
bumper are looking good and the headlights are clear. Well minded
gaps and mostly straight steel make up the fenders and doors with
oversized mirrors in chrome. Up top on the cab are clearance lights
and bringing up the back is a large stake bed. Steel sides with
mesh inserts make up the bed sides and tailgate while wood
flooring, which shows some wear from usage and age, makes up the
floor. Simple 16" steel wheels are wrapped in like new 215/85R16LT
rubber with dual tires on the rear.
Interior
For the interior, a dark gray vinyl bench stretches from door to
door and has some wear off, soiling and a split seam on the
driver's lower bolster. Gray plastic moldings abound on the doors
and creates the various panels for the armrest and window crank
while a simple steel panel finishes off things below. A gray
plastic dash, original to the truck, is on and looking good. A
black panel houses the instruments, knobs and turns. A factory
black steering wheel is fronting the dash. All red steel for the
headliner above, and soiled and torn rubber flooring is below.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a new performance 5.8 liter V8 making a consignor
stated 280hp and 414 ft lb of torque. It is fed air and fossils
through a Holley 4bbl carburetor and a rebuilt C6 3-speed automatic
transmission on the back with a 3.55 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Just patina and road dirt underneath and no rust noted. Power disc
brakes on front and power drums on back along with coil springs
with radius arms are on front while heavy duty leaf springs provide
the ride on the rear. We note that a new fuel tank has been
installed.
Drive-Ability
A nice used truck in good shape right out of 1990 and looking the
part in its ability to haul. It started easily and ran like a champ
on the test track with the only issues creeping up being a rear
anti-lock brake warning light and a check engine light due to the
removal of the computer, EFI system, and many of the emission
control devices.
A rarely seen rust free version of the F350. With a new engine,
rebuilt transmission and all looking good and ready to go to work.
Which is more than I can say about most people these days!
