Vehicle Description
1966 Pontiac Catalina Convertible
The Catalina name was originally applied to Pontiacs back in the
50's as a trim level. These were Pontiacs competitor to the Bel Air
and all hardtops were considered Catalina's. In 1959 it became its
own model and was Pontiac's entry level full size car. Despite
being designated "entry level" they offered more amenities than
Chevrolet's standard including larger motors while also coming in
at a more affordable price point. In 1965 they were completely
restyled and the split front grill section resembled that of the
GTO. This cool Catalina is a well done car painted in its original
Sun Golden Glow Yellow color. It did receive a repaint in the 90's.
The color pairs nicely with the White convertible top that has also
been replaced. The chrome and stainless is in good condition
throughout as is the original glass. The hubcaps feature a knock
off style design and came off a 1965 Pontiac. They are 14s and the
thin white wall tires have plenty of life left in them.
One cool thing about this Pontiac is the car was factory ordered
with some unique options like air conditioning, power brakes, and
power steering. It isn't often cars of this vintage got some of
these more luxurious features. Under the hood, the car has what is
believed to be a 400 cubic inch V8 that came out of a later
1969-1970 Pontiac. The motor starts up and runs well with no
smoking. Everything has been kept mostly stock except for the added
finned billet air cleaner and valve covers. The motor is combined
with an Automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. The suspension
is the stock set up but it has been gone through we all new ball
joints and bushings in the front.
The interior of the car truly is in great shape. It has Black
upholstery and the seats, carpet, door panels, etc all look good.
It has its original split bench seat up front and bench in rear.
The dash has a mostly stock appearance and all of the gauges are
working correctly. Even the clock works which is pretty unique
considering most classics we have encountered don't have a working
clock anymore. These cars had a pretty cool design for the gauges
where the Fuel, Amp, and Clock gauges were framed in nice trim and
slightly angled towards the driver. Being a factory AC car it also
has all the adjustable vents inset into the dash however the AC is
not currently working. The trunk of the car is all carpeted and
houses a spare.
This cool Convertible will bring you many hours of cruising
enjoyment. It shows well and is being offered up at a very
reasonable price.
