Square-body Chevy trucks are all the rage these days, but even with
their skyrocketing popularity you can still find good deals out
there just like this 1985 Chevrolet C10 Custom Deluxe. Super-cool
bright yellow paint, a custom interior, and plenty of small block
V8 power mean that this truck definitely has what it takes to get
noticed on Saturday night.
You can count me as one of those folks who like the look of the
short bed on a regular cab pickup because the proportions are
almost ideal. With the raked and lowered stance and killer,
high-impact Yellow paint job, it looks about a mile long and thanks
to a sizeable pile of cash going into the paint several years ago,
it still looks pretty darn good today. It's a driver for certain so
it's not a perfect specimen by any means, but it's a good-looking
driver at that, and that bright yellow finish is definitely going
to draw a crowd. Straight bodywork is mostly stock, although the
trim has been removed to really let the paint scheme do all the
talking. In addition, you get a big cowl hood up front, big chrome
mirrors at the profiles, and a roll pan was added out back when the
bumper was deleted. There's a billet grille and fresh headlights up
front, and although the shortbed isn't exactly dressed for show, it
was lined with durable black paint so you can actually use this
truck as, well, a truck. In the following years since the
restoration, it was driven, shown a bit, and greatly enjoyed, but
even with some of those comfort marks it looks quite good out in
the sun. Looks cool and it's practical? Win-win!
You know that a truck this dramatic on the outside needs to be
special inside, and it surely doesn't disappoint. A custom
black-and-yellow seat cover on the bench seat looks up-to-date and
features a matching pattern that perfectly complements the
exterior, and it really livens things up inside the cab. It's
comfortable enough to live in all day and looks great with only
minor signs of use, as is the case with plush black carpets below,
and the pleated black door panels at the flanks. The original dash
is protected with a matching black dash pad, and ahead of the
driver there's a leather-rimmed billet steering wheel and all of
the original instruments. Options include cold factory A/C,
seatbelts, and a modern JVC AM/FM/CD head unit in the factory dash
slot, which means this truck was built with regular driving in
mind.
Following the sizzling paint and eyeball-popping interior, the 305
cubic inch V8 (aka the Chevy 5.0L) under the hood seems almost
ordinary. However, you shouldn't underestimate it, as it carries an
Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, a performance intake, and long-tube
headers that work together to help it breathe and respond with a
little added horsepower. For a truck like this, it's important for
it to have the power to back up the look, and although it's not a
barn-burner, it will more than get the job done. It's also very
dependable, starts easily, idles well, and moves the lowered pickup
with ease, all with a great V8 soundtrack from the dual Flowmaster
mufflers and twin pipes that dump down just before the rear axle. A
TH350 3-speed automatic transmission powers what's likely the
original 10-bolt rear end, and the slick stance looks cool without
an abusive ride. It's quite solid underneath, the power steering
and power front disc brakes help the truck handle with great
aplomb, and shiny American Racing Torque Thrust 15-inch wheels
carry white-letter performance radials that finish the look.
This is a whole heck of a lot of custom truck for the price of a
