Vehicle Description
STK 3165 1991 Lotus Elan
The Lotus Elan Type M100 was launched by Lotus/GM in August 1989,
reviving the Elan nameplate after 14 years. A two-seater
convertible sports car with front-wheel drive was designed in-house
by Lotus and was conceived as a mass-market car that would appeal
to young US buyers. Its design featured a polymer composite body
constructed over a rigid steel backbone chassis with front-wheel
drive. (This was the only front-wheel-drive vehicle made by Lotus.)
It featured a 1,588 cc DOHC turbochargered/intercooled 16-valve
4-cylinder engine w/fuel injection sourced from Isuzu and
extensively modified by Lotus. Significant differences in the
Isuzu-Lotus engine included a new exhaust system, redesigned intake
and modified control unit with an output rated at 130bhp. Isuzu
also supplied the 5-speed manual transaxle. This 1991 Lotus Elan is
a very nice example of the M100 The partially restored roadster has
received a new coat of Monaco White paint. A subtle trunk lid
spoiler and factory 16x7" alloy wheels w/performance radials
provide sharp accents. The original black interior is in overall
good condition with only normal wear to the leather seating.
Carpeting, dash and door cards are all in good nick. Features
include air conditioning, power tinted windows and power locks.
There is a driver-side airbag and sounds come from by an
aftermarket in-dash AM/FM/MP3 sound system. The black convertible
top is also in good condition and recedes under a polymer
body-colored tonneau. Lotus designed the chassis with independent
front/rear 'interactive' wishbone suspension, power steering and
power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes. The Type M100 delivers an
honest-sports-car feel and is ready for the new owner who will
appreciate this very unique Elan. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
