For Sale: 1965 Factory Five Cobra in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Historically, Cobras were built with a singular focus. They were designed to get around a track as fast as possible without breaking anything in the process. But, as the Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said, "Everything changes, and nothing stands still". These days, Cobras have evolved to not only be great track cars, but also great investments, storied show cars and exceptionally fun cruisers. Speaking of fun, show worthy classics that can still kick asphalt at the track, check out this fully sorted Factory Five roadster. Since you can already see the car's charming aesthetics, and you already know that Factory Five builds some of the best Cobra replicas on the market, the show and go parts of the equation are obvious. What isn't so obvious is 351 cubic inches of brutal Windsor V8, a tough Tremec 5-speed and countless performance upgrades that make the car an excellent companion for cruising. Looking for a top-notch Cobra that's ready to rock and roll? Look no further than this sweet silver snake!

SEE IT SHINE

Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, modeled on two well-known Shelby classics, is a one-piece, hand-laid Vinylester shell that was laminated to 3/16ths, CNC trimmed and covered in a .015-inch gel coat. That gel lays excellent groundwork for wet looking Metallic Silver two-stage. And today, this super slick roadster is a head-turning classic that's ready for the track, the boulevard or the show!

Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this MK3, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, polished overriders center a polished Nudge Bar between a stylish Shelby emblem, bullet-style parking lamps and stainless-trimmed Lucas PL tripod headlights. Behind that emblem, a lightweight Lift-Off Hood arcs a small scoop between polished pins, polished latches and bold 351 emblems. A polished, bullet-style racing mirror reflects a chrome-trimmed windscreen between a polished roll bar and Factory Five wind wings. Beneath those wings, polished stainless side-pipes frame polished heat extractors and classy Ford emblems. And at the back of the car, sinuous quarters hang chrome-trimmed taillights between a polished, Monza-style fuel filler, polished deck hardware and a polished Oval Bumper.

BLUE OVAL BRAWN

Check this Cobra's clean engine bay and you'll find 351 cubic inches of proven Ford Windsor that, according to the car's current owner, makes right around 425 horsepower! At the top of that fresh mill, a polished, 427-style air cleaner feeds a big Holley 4-barrel that's slid between polished stainless fuel lines. Those barrels tune a precise mixture of air and fossils for a proven Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake. That intake feeds lightweight aluminum heads, which work well with a COMP Thumpr hydraulic roller cam. The Fires get lit by proven MSD 6AL ignition, which sequences spark between a hot aftermarket distributor and loomed MSD Street Fire Wires. Billet brackets support billet pulleys, which spin a modern alternator next to an aluminum water pump. Cooling comes courtesy of a big aluminum radiator, which tilts a large Maradyne puller fan between corrugated hoses, a polished expansion tank and a trick Mr. Gasket Thermocap. And choice detailing includes a Carter fuel pump, a deep oil pan, a remote oil cooler and tasteful Ford Racing valve covers that are dotted with a stainless Ford Racing breather.

ENJOY THE DRIVE

Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a tough Tremec 5-speed spins a familiar 8.8-inch axle that, thanks to 3.50 gears and a limited-slip differential, ensures whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That taut drivetrain pushes a Factory Five 3-link that's finished with a proven Panhard Bar and adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. An independent front-half hangs two more adjustable QA-1 coil-overs between tubular Pole Position control arms. Turns come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by choice Wilwood calipers, which squeeze drilled, slotted and vented discs. And power meets the pavement through polished American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which twist flashy Ford spinners inside 245/45R17 Yokohamas and 275/40R17 Falkens.

THE ESSENCE OF ROADSTER

Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as monochromatic leather and fade-free carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving environment. Front and center, deep buckets pin soft pleats under four-point Simpson harnesses. Looking forward, a leather-clad dash props crisp AutoMeter telemetry above pushbutton ignition and sporty Shelby foot pedals. An angled shifter joins a muted E-brake and a polished extinguisher between leather door panels and polished door latches. The driver carves curves through a polished and wood-rimmed steering wheel. And a carpeted trunk hides the car's trusty Optima battery.

A track-bred Cobra that's civil enough to parade down Main Street, who says you can't have your cake and eat it too? Don't miss your opportunity to own this spectacular Factory Five roadster!
