1967 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 Convertible Original 400ci engine & 4spd Transmission
This amazing Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 Convertible was acquired from a very special private collection. Each one of these classics could be considered one of the best in existence and each has a special significance in the classic car world. Take a look!
This Firebird Formula 400 convertible is in MINT condition everywhere you look. It is easily a #1 condition car that has been driven and is not a trailer queen. The mileage is accurate at just 62390 miles. The engine, transmission and rear end are all Original to the car. The engine is the factory WU code 400ci engine with 325hp mated to a factory M-21 4- speed transmission. The Air Induction Hood was included with the WU code engine package. The hood tach was an option and was factory ordered with the car. The compression ratio is a powerful 10.75:1, the highest available in a Pontiac that year and one of the highest ever! Add the Safe-T-Trac rear end, 3.55 gear ratio and dual exhaust, and you have one incredible and very rare machine.
Other options include power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, center console, Rally II wheels, hood mounted tachometer, folding rear seat (a rare option for the golfers in the world) and an AM radio which has been upgraded to a AM-FM stereo with the vintage look and modern inner workings. A Note About Rarity?? There were 82,560 Firebirds produced in its first year in 1967. Only 15,528 were convertibles and just 1220 Firebirds had this engine option. The number of convertibles with this engine option are unknown however, it cant be many! Of the 1220 Firebirds that came from the factory with this engine option AND also being a convertible, there must have been a very limited few. Lets add one more thing to the mix! To find another one, in MINT condition, with all numbers and options being factory correct, how many could there have been? … And how many could still exist today? With a little bit of speculation here, we believe there couldn’t have been more than 100 of these cars made. If you need one more factor to add to the absolute rarity of this beautiful machine, then include the factory hood tachometer. Keep in mind!! Nothing was added to this car. This is exactly how it left the factory. This car is the best of the best.
The car starts, drives and stops flawlessly. It shifts easily and needs absolutely nothing! There are literally No Disappointments here!
This car was featured in a Muscle Car book called Firebird / Trans Am; written by David Newhardt in 2005. The book will come with the car. Documentation includes a previous owner’s Nebraska title, PHS and the original owner’s manual. This is a must have for any Pontiac collector or enthusiast.
