For Sale: 1983 Honda Prelude in Cadillac, Michigan

1983 Honda Prelude Practical and reliable transportation - a time machine from 1983! In original, very good condition (missing original wheels and radio has been replaced with CD player) and looking for an enthusiast of Honda machines to finish restoration. Gorgeous, shiny paint R-46 Dominican Red. This car was sold new here in Colorado, with no A/C and no power steering, known at the time to be power-sucking, unnecessary features. Manual windows of course. Rear seat folds flat to access trunk. 144K miles on original engine and five-speed manual transmission - the A18A engine, 1.8 L 12-valve with twin side-draft carburetor. I'm the second owner. Records indicate timing belt was replaced at 88K miles, along with many other repairs along the way, alternator, distributor, water pump, headlights, windshield - I have the full service history from the first owner. I recently replaced the battery. Last year I removed the carburetor, had it rebuilt at a shop in Denver, and reinstalled - afterward the car passed emissions with no problem. It starts easily, runs without overheating, drives at highway speed, stops, and all lights work. The cracked tail light that is pictured has been replaced. However, this car has not been restored. Future service needs include the following: Test the fuel pump and rebuild or replace if needed - sometimes the engine doesn't deliver all the power that is asked of it through the gas pedal. Repair coin-sized rust spot beginning to form on passenger rear wheel well (shown in last picture) Replace a half-shaft or CV joint that makes a wobble noise up front. The sunroof works well but one must jiggle the button sometimes. Most importantly, the manual transmission shifts easily and reliably when cold but when thoroughly warmed up (30 minutes), it becomes more difficult to shift gears. Service record from 2013 notes 'weak clutch.' Yes, this is a long list of repairs. However the condition of the car is exceptional.
