Vehicle Description
The 1965 Shelby Cobra is an international icon of speed. But more
than just look the part, there are a few cut-above replicas that
can deliver champion-level performance. This Superformance car with
its fully independent suspension, lightweight construction, and
awesome fuel-injected 600 hp 427 V8 proves that this is at the top
of the Cobra hierarchy.
Superformance is one of the most accurate Cobra manufacturers, and
they took great pains to get the shape right. So the fiberglass
body has the kind of smooth style that can really showcase a
high-quality finish - especially when there's under 2k miles on
this professional build. That's why the high gloss red paint almost
looks like liquid flowing over the iconic fenders. And the white
racing stripes are painted on to make sure they retain a crisp and
clean style for the long run. Details like the driver roll hoop,
racing gas cap, quick jack bumpers, and bold side pipes not only
add serious flair, but they also suggest that it was built for
racetrack combat. And of course, no one will mistake you for
anything but a speed machine thanks to the hallmark Halibrand-style
knock-off wheels and staggered tire size for added aggression.
The interior definitely gets the Shelby attitude right, with
wrap-around bucket seats, racing seatbelts, and a fire extinguisher
on the rear panel. The driver gets the full Cobra experience with
the three-spoke AC wood steering wheel, and the Mustang-style
shifter has a reversed mount to fit the driver perfectly. The full
Smiths gauge package is Cobra correct, right down to the reverse
position speedometer. If you do get caught in the rain, the full
folding top and side curtains are a great friend to get you home,
and the tonneau is nice for early mornings on the track. There's no
radio, no power windows, no A/C - this is a competition machine
that's all about the driving experience and nothing else needs to
get in the way.
Speaking of the driving experience, the best part of a Cobra is
always under the hood. The engine bay has that perfect shiny
appearance that will certainly attract crowds. And beneath the
flash is the substance of a big block built for some serious
performance. It's a side-oiler 427 cubic-inch V8 built by Southern
Automotive - authorities in blue oval big block performance. The
motor includes dual FAST fuel injection, Edelbrock Performer
aluminum heads, an aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans, and
ceramic-coated headers. The full package is estimated to make about
600 horsepower, and the thunderous roar of those side pipes do a
terrific job of announcing your power superiority. The power
reliably gets to the ground thanks to the stout Tremec 3550
five-speed feeding a limited-slip rear end. On the road or
racetrack, you'll instantly feel the confidence the fully
independent suspension with adjustable coilovers gives you. There
are even four-wheel power disc brakes so your stopping power will
match your performance driving.
This one is competitive fun on the street or track. A Cobra is a
dream for a lot of us, so hurry up before a well-sorted,
low-mileage, and speedy Superformance build gets snatched up by
