With the new Jeep Gladiator here, it's nice to take a long look at
the last pickup of Jeeps. In fact, this 1988 Jeep Comanche has a
clean style, A/C interior, overdrive transmission, long bed
utility, and overall robustness that gives you the right mix of a
vintage cruiser and useful pickup.
The Comanche was a cool pickup. It shared the beefy lines of the
Cherokee SUV, and we know how well those XJs are appreciating
today. It's unknown if the odometer reflects the full actual
mileage, but you can also tell that this one has been given some
solid investments to keep it looking newer. The factory Grenadine
color was given a proper respray to make sure this has a good gloss
that shows off the well-preserved and well-creased sheet metal. It
gives this truck a premium style. The same goes for the clean
grille, bright bumpers, and classic Jeep 15-inch wheels. Overall,
it is stylishly vintage to give you the right nostalgic feeling,
but it never wants to be too fancy to lose its real truck nature.
After all, the long bed has a full liner and there's a proper
trailer hitch on the back.
Everything from the confident action of the doors to the classic
Jeep textured cloth insert of the seat gives the interior the
feeling of a well-respected pickup. But just like the exterior,
this one also wants to remain a useful and easy driver. So you have
nice premium features, like cold-blowing air conditioning, a
sliding rear window, and an upgraded AM/FM stereo with USB and
Bluetooth. And the classic Jeep steering wheel is on a tilt column
to give you a clear view of the gauge package.
Under the hood is a correct 4.0-liter motor. This inline-six was
derived from the tough-as-nails AMC line of motors, and so you get
durability and economy. Factory electronic fuel injection only
enhances this reputation. Plus, we were told this was given a
recent comprehensive service, including shaving the head, a new
head gasket, new lifters, serviced valves, a new starter, and fresh
fluids. And this one fires up and runs with the kind of gusto that
reaffirms the feeling of a quality investment. A four-speed
automatic transmission with overdrive, power steering, power
brakes, front discs, and an overall solid feeling on the road that
makes this one good for all occasions.
