Vehicle Description
Around here they're aptly called "Texas limousines", and these
4-door dually pickups are still the coolest way to haul big loads
with big style. Restored a scant 1,184 miles ago, this gorgeous
Matte White hoss features a rebuilt 454 V8 big block, a capable
5-speed manual transmission, and a custom interior loaded with
leather seats and a booming stereo system. Powerful enough to tow
away The Alamo yet refined enough to park at the Ritz-Carlton, this
1987 Chevrolet C3500 Silverado Dually proves that everything is
BIGGER and BETTER in Texas.
With a chosen moniker like the "Texas Cadillac", the builders of
this dually had their work cut out for them to live up to that
name. The words "Texas" and "Cadillac" imply power, strength,
prodigious size, and top-of-the-line luxury, and this Silverado has
all those in spades. If you need a heavy-duty work truck or just
love the unique look, either way you can't get much more 'iron on
wheels' than this, especially at this price point. Price out a new
4-door dually with this kind of hardware and you'll be in
six-figure territory quickly, whereas this vintage hauler has been
fully restored and is easily half the price. Matte White paint was
an ambitious choice, in that the body and prep-work had to be
nearly perfect for it to look good, and thankfully the builder's
got everything right. The finish is miles deep, uniform throughout,
and even though Matte White tends to show mistakes, we could barely
spot an imperfection. The body is laser-straight, the panels are
factory precise, and the crease in the body that denotes those big
fenders is as crisp as a $5K suit. Tough add-ons include a chrome
brush guard, chin spoiler, fog lights, and a billet grill up front,
a windshield visor with integrated running lights, and oversized
chrome mirrors and long chrome step bars at the flanks. There's
Silverado trim encircling the back of the cab and on the tailgate,
and all the lenses and reflectors are brand new and shine bright.
The inside of the bed is massive, with what appears to be access
for a potential 5th wheel attachment (there's also a heavy-duty tow
bar out back), and it was treated with black spray-in bedliner that
wears like iron. And there's a good bit of incredibly clean chrome
and brightwork on this Squarebody Dually, highlighted the trim
around the windows and those huge, heavy-duty bumpers fore and
aft.
A truck that makes this big of a statement outside, better have the
goods to match inside. It's first class all the way inside this
cabin, where late-model leather bucket seats with wide folding arm
rests were added front and back. The look and feel of the interior
mirrors the modern quad-cabs that Chevy and Ford put out these
days, but there are still plenty of vintage components to remind
everyone that this is indeed a classic truck after-all. That
combination of new-and-old is perfectly exemplified in the dash
where a black Silverado pad is up top, a full array of Dakota
Digital gauges were fitted inside the stock bezel ahead of the
driver, and the lower portion was custom sculpted to accommodate
AirRide gauges, a row of auxiliary switches (which include USB
connections, and toggles for the lights, battery, air compressor,
and 12-volt power), and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD/DVD/AUX head-unit that
also features a Navigation system and back-up camera. That
multi-media screen powers a booming stereo that includes upgraded
Infinity speakers and Rockford-Fosgate amplifiers and subwoofers
stashed behind the seats out back. A custom panel was installed up
top and filled with LED cabin lights and a couple more USB and
12-volt outlets, and the center console arm rests that split the
four seats house plenty of cup holders for the entire crew. Options
include a trailer brake, dual fuel tanks, power windows/locks,
cruise control, R134a A/C, and leather-wrapped billet steering
wheel mounted atop a tilt column. The 5-speed shifter falls easily
in hand, the custom airbrush work on the glovebox is super cool,
and entire cabin is incredibly clean and roomy for four very large
individuals. From the carpets to the door panels to the headliner,
everything is practically brand new in this cab and it definitely
shows.
The engine is a gas-fired, fully rebuilt 454 cubic inch V8, the big
block everyone wants in their heavy hauler. This is a fresh
rebuild, finished just 1,184 miles ago, so it's ready to keep going
for quite some time to come. The big torque makes even heavy
trailers feel lighter and it never seems to run out of breath on
big hills. The engine bay is incredibly tidy, restored mostly back
to stock with original controls, so it starts and runs like a
stocker with a little more pop, and you can see by the underhood
details that this truck has been well maintained since it was
completed. There's a 5-speed manual transmission that cruises
easily at highway speeds and the heavy-duty rear axle looks big
enough to have been stolen from a cement mixer. Underneath you'll
find an upgraded suspension filled with lots of new components
including big sway bars, modern shocks, big springs, fresh
bushings, a completely overhauled brake system, and an Air Ride
that helps set the stance. Power steering and power brakes give
this big dually great road manners, while the fresh exhaust
underneath sounds absolutely wicked. Aftermarket 16-inch chrome
wheels sure dress it up and carry staggered 235/75/16 front and
235/85/16 rear heavy-duty Yokohama truck tires designed for
work.
Still ready, willing, and able to do the big stuff, but looking
good enough that you might want to save it for special occasions,
this freshly built dually is offered with its original owner's
manuals, a stack of build receipts, and a custom car cover. This
might the coolest Squarebody on the market today. Call now!
