Vehicle Description
1932 Ford Pickup
Henry Ford had a knack for knowing what customers wanted long
before even they did. Take for example the three most famous prewar
Ford products. Nearly all cars manufactured at the time that the
first Model T rolled off the assembly line on October 1, 1908, were
expensive luxury cars, and every attempt to produce an economy car
had failed. It took a lot of courage to assume that millions of
Americans who had never been able to afford a car would want a
Model T. When he shut the assembly lines down for six months and
spent millions retooling for the Ford Model A, the wait and
sacrifice were worth it. The Model A was a bases loaded home run.
Finally, when the Model A had run its course, Ford's new
development was the Flathead Ford V-8 wrapped in a nearly all new,
more modern car initially called the Model 18. For 1932, Ford
introduced an improved version of the Model A four-cylinder to
accompany the new V-8 in its cars and trucks. The 4-cylinder lasted
in production until 1934 when the V8 was proven to be the right
choice
This steel rodded version of the 1932 pickup is out there in its
purest hot rodded sense. With the front fenders bobbed, a 3-piece
aluminum hood with vented side panels, plain red steel wheels with
Plymouth hubcaps, and a 350ci engine, we can definitely get a
little pick me up from this pickup!
Exterior
With its top chopped, bobbed front fenders, aluminum hood side hood
cowls and shortened bed, we have the hot rod version of a pickup
truck. Bathed in satin black, this all steel rodder has a single
sheet wood lined bed with its canted outward top sides, and out of
this world exhaust that exits behind the cab, turns upward and
follows the upper section of the bedside to diagonally cut tips. Up
front we are met with a bright vertically ribbed grille being
flanked by a pair of large chrome headlight buckets. 1959 Cadillac
rear taillights round out the back of this hot rod truck and frame
the smooth tailgate nicely. Plain red painted steel wheels with
shiny Plymouth hubcaps round out this righteous rod.
Interior
With some custom red metal flake paint on the dash the swirled
machine turned gauge cluster looks right at home. Round chrome
bezel Mooneyes gauges fill this panel and give the perfect period
correct look. A tilt steering column, courtesy of a 1968 Mustang
fronts the dash with its very retro red metal flake steering wheel.
Hanging above at the front of the laminated unfinished headliner is
the requisite rear view mirror and wiper motors. A plush deep red
velour bench seat floating in a sea of clean black carpeting along
with a long armed Lokar shifter. Continuing on we note unfinished
door panels that have had Roadkill silver sound deadener applied.
Simple and to the point in here, but still leaving room for your
artistic touches.
Drivetrain
350 cubes late model V8 is shoehorned into the engine bay. There is
a 4-barrel carburetor atop and it feeds the engine through an
aluminum intake. A TH350 3-speed automatic is bolted to the rear of
the 350ci mill. A Ford 9" rear axle is on to accept power from the
big V8 up front.
Undercarriage
Nicely done with no rust, structural inefficiencies and only a
spattering of road dirt. Nice black paint even on the original
boxed frame exists. Disc brakes are now on the front and work
together with drums on the rear. A chrome drop axle with transverse
leaf springs are seen up front and for the ride in the rear we note
a 4 link with adjustable coilovers. Very clean and well-maintained
underneath.
Drive-Ability
Started quickly and drove just like a 1932 Pickup! The plush bench
seat provided ample comfort during our drive. The truck rode fairly
smoothly and had plenty of power to cruise down the highway, or any
back road.
A nicely done truck that can be enjoyed as is or taken to the next
level with all of your heart's whims. Either way the truck runs
great and is a blank canvas to curb appeal, leaving you to dream
on! She's my little deuce truck, you don't know what she's got!
