Vehicle Description
1975 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The 1975 Chevy Corvette, along with the automotive industry as a
whole, would experience a significant transformation at the onset
of the new model year. Because of serious health issues and
environmental contamination associated with the use of leaded fuel,
it was determined that the automotive industry would - and should -
phase it out. Tetraethyllead, (also known as TTL, or simply
"lead"), was introduced in the 1920's as an additive to prevent
fuel from auto-igniting in high compression internal combustion
engines. While the lead additives allowed engine designers to
produce more powerful, higher compression engines, it also produced
a dangerous neurotoxin through exhaust emissions, which resulted in
many cases of acute, and widespread lead poisoning, especially in
children.
For consignment, a nice version of the 1975 C3 Corvette. A great
entry level car to get you into the Corvette game, it's in good
condition and provides a sporty ride, while with the emissions
regulations kicking in horsepower was limited. But with a rebuilt
engine, a 4-speed automatic transmission, a respray in an Audi/VW
color, and a litany of maintenance this Vette is ready to set your
heart on fire without emptying your wallet.
Exterior
Fiberglass bathed in a 1 year old respray of Arctic Blue Silver
Metallic, an Audi hue, paint is seen in its sculpted final form and
does a great job of covering this rolling work of art. We do note
some dimpling of the flat surfaces of the hood, nose and tops of
the front fenders. An L-48 body matching painted T top roof and
fiberglass and neoprene bumpers with hidden headlights in front,
curvaceous fenders all around this coke bottle design sports car.
The headlights have new actuators and regulators. On the back the
rounded slightly pointed rear roll panel is one of this writer's
favorite years and this retains the round deep set taillights.
Chrome trimmings are seen surrounding the glass and dividing the
cockpit for the T- top. A shiny stainless steel rocker trim is
curving on to bridge the gap between the fenders and the doors. A
cove is in the front quarter and sides show this car is pre
greenhouse glass long "flying buttress" type B pillars supporting
each side of the near vertical rear glass. 15-inch rally deep dish
wheels are on all 4 corners and dual exhaust tips peek out from
underneath the smoothed over rear bumper.
Interior
As a nice contrast to the silver blue, dark red vinyl is wrapping
the surfaces of the interior which has been recently restored. We
note new weatherstripping all throughout the interior. High back
buckets with a center console racing forward to the tan top out
angled molded dash. Deep set gauges front the original steering
wheel, and dark red carpeting, very clean with minor fading floods
the floors. Door panels use a smooth dark red vinyl as well as a
diagonal striped vinyl insert to accentuate the chrome actuators
and knobs. Noted, the door panels present with some cracking and
torn stitching. Overall, a nicely presented interior.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood we are met with the rebuilt original L48 350ci V8
mill. Nicely detailed and presenting with some chromed bling added
on. A single Holley 4-barrel carburetor is atop of the aluminum
Weiand intake, and on back a 200R4 4-speed automatic coupled with a
3.08 rear axle to put power to the pavement. A new aluminum
radiator has been added to keep things extra cool.
Undercarriage
Very nicely preserved underneath with an overall patina for the
floor pans, rockers and other bolt ons underneath. All up front is
dry, but we note some wetness on the underbody above the rear axle.
Full independent SLA type with coil springs is the suspension and
includes several cast aluminum components for extra weight loss.
Power disc brakes are on all 4's and power steering provides easy
navigation. As per our consignor, a new brake master cylinder,
booster, calipers and power steering system have been added.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and on the test track it performed beautifully.
Nice smooth acceleration, smooth shifting and good brakes. It
handles like it's on rails and the T top option is a nice feature
without having to fuss with a canvas mechanism. I noticed the
headlights were slow to rotate up but all else was functioning
swimmingly.
A rounded rear version from 1975, in nice condition mechanically, a
good solid interior, nicely cared for exterior. A great T-top
cruiser, here is your chance to get into the Corvette game. Is
there a little bug getting ready to bite??? Hmmmmmmmmm?!
