For Sale: 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in Wesley Chapel, Florida

Vehicle Description

1970 Dodge Charger R/T converted to look like a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona (CLONE).

Dodge produced a scant 503 of the Daytona in 1969 to approve its radical design for NASCAR competition. The nose cone and tall rear wing helped it earn the distinction of the first superspeedway race car to top 200 mph. With so few produced, some enthusiasts have built their own with original take-off or reproduction parts. That’s the case with this clone, which is built on a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. They only produced 10,377 Dodge Charger R/T's in 1970. This Dodge Charger was built in June 1970 at the Chrysler plant in St. Louis, Missouri. The seller — notes he purchased the car in Daytona, Florida in 2016. This 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona tribute is a rust-free car, powered by a built 440 engine and wearing a shade of Rally Yellow from a 2008 British MG model. From every angle, the Daytona clone appears very convincing, with an accurate nose cone and rear wing. Production models also featured a unique flat rear window and vinyl roof, while this car retains the standard tunneled rear glass and unadorned roof. The sheet metal is “very straight and devoid of rust,” with no previous accidents, and it has been sprayed a distinctive yellow hue. The car also retains the stock “R/T” badges on the front fenders and the exterior chrome is bright and shiny, per the photos. The seller also notes the glass is in “very good” condition, with no cracks or chips, and the door and trunk seals are also in excellent condition. The exterior lighting is functional. The chassis, brake, and suspension components are in “very good” condition. The suspension was serviced three years ago, and the fuel tank and fuel sender are new. The four-wheel drum brakes work well, as does the power-steering system, and the car rolls on 15-inch Weld Racing Drag Lite polished aluminum wheels wrapped with Dunlop G/T Qualifier radial tires. This vehicle will be sold on a clean Florida title in the seller's name. Additional documentation includes a copy of the dyno test report, a binder of related paperwork, and manuals. No, this isn’t an authentic Daytona, but it’s an undeniably eye-catching clone with a fun factor amplified by its grumbling, recently rebuilt original 440 engine. For those seeking a more attainable winged warrior experience, this yellow 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona tribute brings nearly everything to the table — and track without paying $500,000!

The car broke 200 MPH at Chelsea Proving Grounds in July 1969, a 426 Hemi, 575 HP, and four-speed and the engine was lowered for better aerodynamics with a drag efficiency of 0.29 and body raked forward by 1.5 degrees, and quarter panels were given extra bulges before rear wheels for better airflow.
