A year after its introduction, the convertible C5 was chosen as the official pace car of the 1998 Indianapolis 500. With much excitement, General Motors quickly created an official Pace Car Edition. All examples were painted the same Radar Blue metallic. Inside, banana yellow leather complimented other surfaces in more traditional black. The wheels were unique to this Edition and painted the same color as the seats. Speaking of seats, the leather sport buckets were standard. It also had the Active Handling System as standard, as well as a Bose stereo, and climate control. The package was topped off with checkered flag graphics, as well as Indianapolis 500 badging in several places. As one might expect, the Indy Edition was always intended as a limited offering. Only 1,163 were built in total, with only 616 made with the 4 speed automatic transmission This car is number 609, built 2/15/98. The Corvette Pace Car Edition convertibles were exactly the same as the real thing with the exception of the specially-fitted strobe lights on the actual pace car. And since the 345-hp Corvette needs no powertrain modifications to handle the pacing chores, the replicas were mechanically identical to the original. This Chevrolet Corvette Indy Pace Car Convertible finished in Radar Blue with pace car graphics in the trunk. The May 24th, 1998 Indianapolis 500 had as the pace car driven by Parnelli Jones filling in for Greg Norman. This is a 2-owner car that has a clean carfax that also confirms miles to be accurate, 23,502 actual miles! Paint is in nice shape throughout and shows it was well taken care of over the years, nose cone in good shape as well. Powered by the LS1 V8 (345 hp) that is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, an option that only 616 Pace cars were built with (1,163 total built). Riding on newer Hankook 27540ZR18 tires and of course the stock yellow wheels. Yellow and black leather seat interior with black dash, center console, and 6-speed on the floor. Nicely equipped with power steering, power 4 wheel disc brakes, a/c, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power seats, memory drivers seat, and dual climate control. The Z4Z package got you the graphics, Indy 500 package, upgraded Delco radio with cd, digital clock, antitheft, BOSE speakers, leather two-tone seats, active handling package, and performance axle. This comes with the Indy 500 floor mats. Interior is just as clean as the exterior. Manual convertible top is black cloth with glass rear window, in great shape and fits well.
