Vehicle Description
Before you start reading this (and thank you by the way!), please
note that this is arguably the best-looking Chevy truck in our
inventory right now. It's got rugged, timeless good-looks,
augmented with a flashy set of wheels and combined with all the
road-readiness you could want via a 350 V8 and a host of choice
options. This 1968 Chevrolet C10 manages to improve on the
legendary designs of the Action Line of Chevy pickups, and still
carries all the classic styling cues that made the second
generation C10 line such a winner when it was first introduced.
Terrific two-tone paint, a luxurious houndstooth interior, and
plenty of V8 power under the hood - this is the vintage pickup to
own if you want to make your mark and stand out from the crowd.
As the '60s were giving way to the next decade, Chevy embarked on a
fairly extensive do-over of its respected line of trucks, not only
giving them a more modern appearance, but also adding an apt new
nickname to go along with it - the Action Line. In fact, the
redesign was such a hit, it was also given a new moniker: the
Glamour Line. True to its model's original intent, this '68 seems
plenty ready for vigorous activity - it's had the good fortune to
have had its vintage look left largely intact, but with some great
added touches also joining the mix to up its visual vitality level.
The Cream and Tan color scheme now draped over its exterior is a
great fit, and that modern two-tone combo really pops in person and
offers a strong shine. It's a top driver-quality finish, borderline
show-quality in many circles, with only a couple minor
imperfections that likely wouldn't preclude it from winning the
biggest trophy at your local car show. And my goodness does it
shine bright, with a deep luster that really looks excellent in
Cream and Tan livery (precisely why these colors were selected),
while the cowl hood up front adds a touch of sportiness that fits
the theme perfectly. A stock '68 grille (arguably the best-looking
of the Action Line, and a final entry before almost every truck
went to the egg-crate style) anchors things up front, looming in
between a set of modern headlights and over a table-straight front
bumper, and joining a collection of brightwork throughout the truck
that's in uniformly super-clean condition. This vintage truck's
sturdy foundation has served it well, supporting an exterior that,
after nearly a half century of faithful service, remains in very
good alignment - both the big hood and the doors sport decent gaps
(and not to nitpick, but the hood stoppers could probably be
adjusted a bit), and everything opens and shuts easily.
Cheyenne-spec body molding separates the two shades and let's
everyone know that this is a top-of-the line truck these days, not
just some old hauler, and those awesome wood accents in the lower
body and tailgate trim really spruces things up. The rear bumper
and taillights look new, and the inside of the laser-straight bed
was professionally lined with a black spray-in bedliner (one with a
fine and uniform texture) that will protect it for ages. That's
assuming you have the audacity to actually put this beauty to work,
but nevertheless it's certainly capable. Work or play, the look of
this C10 is flat-out awesome, especially with the truck sitting low
on those big, color-matched aftermarket wheels.
Much like the exterior, the interior has benefitted from a very
nice refurbishing that's left it still holding onto a suitably
vintage appearance. Black and white houndstooth bucket seats anchor
the cab, making it feel more like a Camaro than a C10 inside, and
the comfortable seats are split by a wide center console that adds
storage space. Counter to the C10's workmanlike intent, plush black
carpeting sits below and is in excellent condition, matching ornate
custom door panels are at the flanks, and the dashboard features a
black pad up top with warm woodgrain applique below that really
warms things up inside. A leather-rimmed billet steering wheel
occupies the polished tilt column at the helm of the cockpit, and
there's a full array of factory gauges just ahead of it that keep a
close eye on the motor with the help of a trio of auxiliary units
tucked underneath the dash. A retro-style AM/FM stereo was fitted
in the factory slot, seatbelts were added for the buckets, and a
modern HVAC system was installed as well, all of which make the cab
a very comfortable place to be.
If a rock-solid running condition is a priority for you (and it
certainly should be), this pickup should move up your "must see"
list, as the 350 V8 engine standing by under the cowl hood is an
excellent choice. Dressed in Chevy Orange engine enamel, it's been
outfitted performance goodies like a big Holley 4-barrel
carburetor, an aluminum intake, serpentine belt system, and a big
aluminum radiator up front that keeps the whole show nice and cool.
Chevrolet valve covers and a matching orange air cleaner increase
the visual flair, and the engine bay is darn-near spotless with a
color-matched firewall and glossy black inner fenders leading the
way. It sounds great thanks to a set of ram horn style manifolds
that feed into a dual exhaust with glasspack-style mufflers, with
turn-downs just behind the rear wheels. The powerplant teams with a
smooth-shifting 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
(always a must-have for any restomod) and with both power steering
and power front disc brakes on board, this sharp looking C10 really
drives nicely on those giant 22-inch Viscera chrome wheels
outfitted with 265/40/22 performance tires.
