Vehicle Description
1970 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern
era with its C/K series lineup. The "C" designation identified
two-wheel-drive pickups, and the "K" identified 4X4s. The most
common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot
cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same
vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when
the 1998 Silverado replaced it.
Chevrolet produces some of the finest trucks on the planet and has
been doing so for a long time. Within each model range their avid
fans, and this 1970 iteration is no exception. Painstakingly and
lovingly restored, with a nice black paint job, shiny chrome, a
custom interior, a big block engine and modified definitely for the
better, we have a winner! Bingo.
Exterior
Finished in a miles deep black respray we note some inclusions but
the paint remains nice. On the bottom of the passenger's door, we
see some bubbling from underlying rust formation but nothing that
detracts from the overall beauty of the truck. Chrome is in overall
good condition along with badging and trim. A black rear roll pan
replaces the original bumper and shows with a ding on the driver's
side corner. Spray textured bed liner covers the cargo bed floor
and wheel wells while the interior rear gate and bed sides are
finished in more deep glossy black. 20" Rev Salt Flat wheels are on
all 4 corners and are wrapped in almost new 245/45ZR20 low profile
rubber.
Interior
A complete redo inside here with pristine door panels finished in
black vertically stitched velour with peach steel framing, nice
door handles and cranks. Looking inside there is a newly recovered
bench seat with more velour with vertical tuck and roll stitching
and vinyl bolsters both in black. The factory dash has been
retained with its padded black topper and peach steel face.
Original gauges, including a factory tachometer show with a black
background and white lettering and offset the peach nicely. An
aftermarket Jensen AM/FM/Cassette player is installed into the
stock location and in front of the passenger is a peach colored
glove box door. Clean black carpet floods the floors and above is a
nicely done black velour headliner with seat matching stitching all
being framed by more peach steel. Just peachy!
Drivetrain
Under the huge steel hood is a consignor stated 454ci V8 all
painted in black. This sits in a gleaming engine bay, very clean,
with chrome valve coverings, a chrome air cleaner and a 4bbl
carburetor setup atop. A Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission is
attached to the back of this clean engine. A 12-bolt rear is also
noted.
Undercarriage
The frame appears intact and strong and provides support for the
rust free cab floors and bed. Disc brakes are on for the front and
drums provide the whoah factor for the rear. Independent coil
sprung suspension is noted for the front and in the back a swing
arm and coil spring suspension provides the ride. We note a
suspension lowering kit has been installed to give the truck the
perfect stance. Dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers remove spent
fossils and end just in front of the rear wheels.
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and this engine comes to life with a throaty
growl. Engaging 1st gear and we are off to the races, or rather the
Classic Auto Mall acreage, where we can shift smoothly, no
hesitation in the engine, and a typical truck ride. New interior
proved to be comfortable, and all functions were operational at the
time of our drive.
Pretty much a total restoration and with many new parts, surfaces
and paint. Tasteful modifications abound and come together to form
a much better version of the 1970 C10 than the factory ever
envisioned. All buttoned up and ready to show and go thanks to the
big block under the hood. But don't wait too long, this breed of
Chevrolet trucks are hot and never last long in our Hallowed
Halls.
