Vehicle Description
1972 Ford Mustang Grande
With the arrival of the 60's, cars started changing drastically
when compared to the 50's. The years of the muscle car had arrived
and in 1964 Ford introduced the iconic Mustang. Now dubbed "pony
cars" the Mustang brought along the long nose/short deck exterior
that many manufacturers would follow along with in the upcoming
years. These were sporty performance oriented cars and the look is
synonymous with the 60s. This 1972 Mustang still belongs to the 1st
generation and although it retains some similarities to earlier 1st
gen cars the design styling changed quite a bit. Consumers were
wanting larger, heavier, luxury styled cars and the rework of the
Mustang was meant to answer that demand. Ford wanted to experiment
with different trim levels at the time and the "Grande" was
introduced as the luxury trim level. They were only available as
hardtops and incorporated a smoother more refined ride, imitation
wood trim on the interior and additional sound deadening material.
This '72 Grande is a very clean example of one of these cars and
has had a frame on restoration. It was repainted 1 year ago in a
very nice looking White with Blue racing stripes on the dual scoop
hood. These originally came with a vinyl top but this one has been
redone without it for a more sporty appearance. The Grande badging
was also removed along with the wheel moldings and a rear spoiler
added. The floors underneath the car are all solid and during the
rebuild the trunk pan was replaced. The front and rear bumpers are
nicely chromed and have a nice shine as does all of the stainless
trim throughout the car. Under all four corners are American Racing
Torq Thrust II wheels which always suit muscle cars nicely and they
are wrapped in Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires.
Pop the customized hood and you will find the fully rebuilt 351
Windsor motor. These are great motors and this one starts up and
runs strong. Everything under the hood has been kept very stock
looking with a majority of the components being painted either
Black or Ford Blue. It is topped off with a 2 barrel carburetor and
single snorkel air cleaner. On the bottom side of the hood a nice
Mustang insert with logo was added to complete the clean
appearance. The motor is combined with a C4 automatic transmission
that shifts smooth. The suspension system has also been totally
gone through and everything on the car works properly. It has power
steering and power brakes making it a very comfortable car to
cruise around in.
The interior of the car has been completely redone in White with
Blue inserts to match the body. It has nice high back bucket seats
which sit to each side of the Black humphugger center console. The
dash features a new Blue dash pad and has a mostly stock layout
except for the added JVC AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth stereo. The sound
system has been completely redone and sounds great. It has been
completely rewired and all of the stock style gauges, knobs and
switches are working correctly. The odometer shows 67,539 miles and
in front of the driver is a woodgrain steering wheel. The trunk has
been redone in nice Black carpeting and offers plenty of storage
space for all that car show gear.
This fun Mustang is a great driver that needs nothing. It has been
totally redone so the new owner can hop in, turn the key and start
cruising.
