Vehicle Description
This 1956 Ford Thunderbird is an extremely well-optioned baby bird
with a fantastic fifties look! In 1955, the Thunderbird was
introduced by Ford as the company's new flagship model that was a
personal luxury automobile. The idea behind the car was that it
would be two-seater sports-oriented vehicle with all (or even more)
of the luxurious comforts offered by Ford's competitors but with
even more personal style. Once the new Thunderbird was on the road,
it became an instant status symbol with many Hollywood stars
enamored by the elegant design. When it was debuted on February 20,
1954, Ford touted its new sports car as having an even greater
market appeal than Chevy's Corvette and that it was easily
serviceable by Ford's existing dealer network since most of the
parts were interchangeable with the rest of Ford's passenger car
lineup at the time. When the 1956 Thunderbird models were
introduced to the public on November 2, 1955, the car underwent
only minor stylistic changes most of which seemed to be a reaction
to customer complaints about the previous '55 models. New in '56
was a rear-mounted Continental Kit since the '55 T-Birds had most
of their trunk space taken up by the spare tire. Wind wings were
also added in '56 for a more comfortable ride inside the
Thunderbird. 1956 also marked the first time that Ford equipped all
of its passenger vehicles with a 12 volt electrical system which
provided faster startups and more reliable electrical service
across the entire vehicle. This particular 1956 Thunderbird comes
to us from the collection of an avid Ford collector who enjoyed
this car for many years. Powering this '56 T-Bird is a 312 Cubic
Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that was
said to push out over 200 horsepower when new. Anybody can take
this Thunderbird for a spin around the block since the 312 V8 is
hooked up to an Automatic Transmission. As mentioned earlier, this
Baby Bird is extremely well-optioned! With power steering,
maneuvering this classic Ford in and out of tight spots is easy.
Power brakes greatly assist bringing this powerful Thunderbird to a
complete stop. This T-Bird is also equipped with Power Windows and
a Power Seat which are always welcome options on any vintage
collectible car. Dual exhaust gives this classic Thunderbird a nice
throaty sound. A white hardtop is also included with the car and
provides a nice contrast to the exterior look of the car. The
exterior of this Thunderbird has been refinished in its original
color, Buckskin Tan, which has a nice peachy appearance. Riding on
wide whitewall bias-ply tires with full wheelcovers, this
Thunderbird has a nice classic look going down the road. The
interior of this T-Bird is stunning! The bench seat and door panels
have been beautifully reupholstered in Brown and White Vinyl and
they are in fantastic condition. The brown carpeting, matching
dash, and steering wheel all appear to be in their stock
configuration and have a beautiful look to them as well. The dash
is equipped with a 150 MPH speedometer, 5,000 RPM tachometer,
temperature gauge, fuel gauge, clock, and push-button AM Town &
Country Radio. Whether you're looking to buy your very first
classic car or you need to add a '56 Baby Bird to your existing
collection, this 1956 Ford Thunderbird would make an excellent
choice. Give us a call today!
