Hummer owners are not just right; they are righteous. This attitude
is positioned as descendant from classic American myths - John
Winthrop's vision of the City Upon a Hill, endlessly besieged by
outsider foes who hate our freedom but are invariably swept aside
by the forces of destiny itself. Clearly this involves ascribing
meaning, motive and morals to Hummer critics... particularly those
who drive a Prius, or as some Hummer fans call it, a Pious. Getting
down to details, enthusiasts point to volunteer groups that team up
in their Hummers to clean debris from highways, or even help the
Red Cross in disaster situations by way of the Hummer Club's HOPE
(Hummer Owners Prepared for Emergencies) program. Offered here is a
2004 Hummer H2 in black over tan. This is a well-equipped (and
well-maintained) 4-wheel-drive, go-anywhere SUV showing 160,263
miles on its odometer, fewer than 9,500 miles per-year on average
since new. The miles are well below the Carfax low mileage standard
of 15,000 miles per-year. The exterior black paint is in excellent
shape across the entire body. Matte-black trim and all sheet metal
panels are free of dings, dents, or other damage. The chrome front
grille, added InnovativeCreations® chrome entry-assist steps, and
chrome side mirrors-the only chrome on the H2-are in excellent
condition with no scrapes or other marks; the roof bars, front
overhead driving lights, and cabin-top marker lights are all
equally well-maintained. (To best assess the quality of the paint
and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs
of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Factory badging-including
the H2-embossed side mirrors, matte-black H2 fender-side emblems,
Hummer-embossed chrome front grille, and Hummer-embossed,
matte-black rear bumper-are all properly in place. All cabin glass
and lighting lenses-including bumper-mounted driving lights-are
clear and unscarred. Factory 17-inch, 8.5-inch diameter,
Hummer-embossed, matte-black wheels are mounted with General®
Grabber A/T 315/70 tires (including the spare on the rear
swing-away carrier; a matched set indicating owner care for the
vehicle by not skimping and leaving an older spare in place).
Inside, the tan color theme is a pleasing light contrast to the
exterior paint. Two-tone tan door trim, the tan headliner (with
moon roof) are in excellent condition; the matching tan leather
seats on the front buckets and removable, fold-down rear bench are
all free of damage showing only expected creasing from age. Black
carpeting is in place throughout the cabin including in the cargo
area, and shows only very light soiling. DVD entertainment screens
are mounted in the front-seat headrests. A Hummer-branded,
multi-functional steering wheel frames a very complete,
white-faced, analog instrument array on the two-tone tan dash. The
factory audio system with Bose® speakers is mounted on the center
stack above the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
controls. A grab-bar-type shifter for the automatic transmission is
mounted on the center console alongside twin cupholders. (Please
view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the
condition of the H2's interior surfaces.) Under the front-hinged
