1997 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4
The origin of the word Silverado is confusing and varied with each
page you do research from. It has several meanings, however for
this description we will just say it is a truck made by Chevrolet
and is wildly popular.
For consignment a 2-owner truck with which the consigner states has
had a copious amount of recent service since his purchase including
brake work, fuel system work, new tires and fluid changes since his
purchase 2.5-3 years ago. We have a future collectable here, a 4x4,
short bed, well maintained, rust free Silverado ripe for the
picking.
Exterior
Deep black paint with some signs of repainting and ghosting from
removed decals flood this Silverado from the great year of 1997.
Straight steel with nicely minded gaps abounds throughout. No
peeling of the paint which is normal for this era truck is seen.
With Silverado trimmings, meaning plenty of stainless steel
accents, chrome grille and bumper, wheel well surrounds and black
window trimmings and a slightly used but not abused bed we have a
classic worker bee ready to take on another 100K miles of faithful
service or even be taken to the next level for the show circuit.
16-inch factory aluminum wheels wrapped in outlined white letter
Cooper Adventurer AT rubber which are almost new.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals an intricate use of gray molded vinyl,
gray velour inserts, some carpeted area on the bottoms, and many
differing panels to make up just the doors. Inside is an
overstuffed broadcloth pattern pair of bucket seats and center fold
down armrest/3rd seat position in 40/20/40 format. These covered
seats are in excellent condition showing little wear. In front is
the original factory configured gray molded vinyl dash with a black
instrument cluster using the square and rectangle design that was
still popular during the 1990's. The factory AM/FM/Cassette player
is still in its mount and just below is an option CD player. 4x4
activation is controlled by push buttons on the dash and the
original airbag equipped steering wheel is looking just dandy.
Slightly soiled gray carpet is on the floors and remains mostly
clean thanks in part to the gray rubber mats, and above is a tight
felted headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the original unrestored engine bay, is the
original 350ci V8. It is fed fuel by EFI and has a 4L60E 4-speed
automatic transmission on the back. 3.42 geared axles with
positraction and fresh fluid turn the tires to get you out of even
the deepest quagmires you may encounter on your adventures.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust is noted on the rear axle and suspension,
and just a bit on the frame and bed underside, but the truck
remains very structurally sound. Still with black floor pans and
rockers, and an extra-large fuel tank has been optioned on and we
see new fuel lines and hoses along with a consignor stated new
Delphi fuel pump and gauge sender. Power disc brakes are on front,
and power drums for the rear are seen with new brake lines, front
brake pads and calipers. A stock style single exhaust system
handles removal of spent fossils efficiently and we note that a
Hayden transmission cooler that has been added.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and was ready for anything the wilds of
Morgantown, PA could dish out. Although our test drive did not take
us off road or even through a single mud hole, we just logged a few
ticks around the track, and she was proven to work well. Nice
smooth acceleration and shifting, bias free panic stopping, and
easy driveability. We did note that the A/C system was not blowing
cold during our drive but all else was functional.
Whether it be your main mode of transportation, a second truck for
a farm or ranch or cabin location, or a future collectible to
enjoy, you are sure to have years of reliable service left in this
truck. No rust, tons of recent services completed, and it certainly
will be well accepted as is. Go on, get to hauling!
