Vehicle Description
1978 Buick Electra
The Electra was the full size luxury vehicle offered by Buick from
1959 to 1990. There were 6 generations produced before the Electric
name was dropped for just Buick Park Avenue in 1991. The unique
name was inspired by a sculptor, Electra Waggoner Biggs, who was
sister in law to former Buick and GM president Harlow H Curtice.
This 1978 belongs to the 5th generation which received some major
redesigned including losing 11 inches in length and some pretty
significant weight. This was a result of Buick downsizing all of
their C-Body cars. The smaller version proved to be popular and
resulted in an increase of sales. Previously "Park Avenue" was an
appearance option package but it became an official trim option in
'78. They incorporated a different grill and redesigned taillights.
This classic was originally sold out of Pennsylvania and has been
well maintained. It has just over 50,000 miles and is a mostly all
original fully loaded survivor car. That being said in 2021 it was
mechanically gone through with multiple items being refreshed. The
body is in good shape and painted a nice Bronze paint. It is paired
with a Beige Landau top which is in good condition as well. It has
all of its original chrome and trim pieces which are cleanly
mounted in place and the bumper fillers have been replaced. The
glass has a slight tint and is free from any cracks or issues. The
car sits on a set of original wheels with spoke hubcaps and thin
white wall tires that have plenty of life left.
Getting this Buick rolling is the optional larger 403 V8 6.6 Liter
motor paired with an Automatic transmission. The car just received
a new battery and had the AC refurbished and converted to R134. It
also received all new gaskets including the valve cover gaskets,
oil pan gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, new exhaust donut seal,
and at the same time got a fresh oil change with new oil filter.
Other recent mechanical repairs include new spark plugs, rewired
ignition, new shocks/struts and had the carburetor cleaned up. The
result is a smooth running reliable old Buick that glides down the
road with ease. All of the work on it has been done by professional
shops in the local area. The power steering and power brakes all
work properly and it has discs up front.
The Camel cloth interior is in excellent condition throughout.
Everything is very stock and all working properly. It has power
windows, power seats, adjustable mirrors and a tilt/telescoping
wheel. The dash and door panels feature its original woodgrain trim
which is all in good shape as is all of its original stainless trim
pieces. The car recently went to Chris's Trim Shop in Fort Worth,
TX where it received a new headliner, recovered sun visors, and the
pocket back of one of the seats repaired. These were very minor
fixes and the rest of the upholstery needed nothing. The trunk is
done in a darker cloth and in good shape. It offers plenty of
storage space and houses the original spare with spare cover.
You don't see a ton of these classics out on the road and this one
runs great. It has been well cared for since new and the recent
maintenance just makes it that much nicer.
